I think I'm finally getting into the rythm. I've been on the uberman schedule for 12 days now, sleeping half an hour at 4, 8, and 12 (am and pm). I first tried this several months ago and failed after three days as I wasn't mentally/emotionally prepared for how much I was missing sleeping.
Is anyone else on the forum a long-term uberman sleeper? I'm trying to feel out what the next few weeks are going to be like.

I did uberman for a month before switching to everyman, with a few other failed uberman attempts during that time.
The second and third week are just wierd psychologically.. the 3rd and 4th week are much easier than the first 2, but don't get complacent and rock the boat - things are still very fragile
And congrats! Pat yourself on the back, because very few people have even gone two weeks on uberman. It takes a lot of self-control and discipline ;)

What is the everyman program and the uberman program?
I think I will try one of these alternative sleep patterns in the summer.

Actually, the nap time is recommended at about 20 minutes. I don't really recommend 30 minutes, as you run the risk of waking up very groggy.

why would you do different sleep pattern if you get tired or any other reason for not using it? what is the good thinks about it, i haven't got that yet?Quote:

You guys realize that uberman is remarkably similar to a torture technique, right?
Nope, you guys have this wrong. I'll concede that the adaptation period is much like torture and is no fun at all.
But the purpose of that is to adapt ... you're not exhausted once you're into it. For me, I felt great after about 2.5 or 3 weeks, with the first week being the worst.
In fact, I felt a lot better on my 4th week than I generally feel when I'm monophasic (normal sleeping)
As for what the point is ... time? kicks? (test self control)
I did it because I felt like I was in a rut ... go to work, come home, eat, watch tv, sleep, go to work, etc etc
I'm a person who always has lots of crazy ideas and hobbies, so this was like a death sentence to me

When I told my family I was doing this in the second week, my mother thought I was nuts.
While some might question a person's motivations for doing something like this, especially with the initial torture of the first two weeks, the end benefits (IMHO) outweight the initial hardship.
Having done the uberman schedule for the last few weeks, I've been aching to knock off one more hour and move to a schedule that is slightly more "socially compatible".
I'll create another post to discuss it though, so if you're interested (even just to criticize...criticism is useful too) look for it in this forum.
