Fear not the old Hag; The "Rememdy"

I keep reading about people being terrified of "the old hag" AKA sleep paralysis.

You wake up mentally, but your body is still paralysed: asleep. You want to sit up, but your body refuses to coöperate and listen to your mind; It remains motionless. This often leads to feelings of not being able to breathe and pressure on one's chest.

One night, a long time ago, I encountered Olg Hag ( Like I have many times ) and got terrified again briefly, trying to fight it and to sit up in bed.
Then I realised "oh this is just Old Hag; freaky but it won't kill me" and with that thought I decided to just relax, let Old hag be and go back to sleep.

This worked, cause Old hag is nothing but a Dream. trying to fight it is like trying to fight the wind: useless. Instead of trying desperately to wake up your body with your awakened mind, let your mind fall back asleep with your sleeping body. This is the only way, of "defeating" Old Hag. You could even just realise Old Hag won't kill you and not to fear it and cease the oppertunity to start a Lucid Dream/OOBE from there, rather than to see it as something dreadfull to be feared.

Just realised I'd do a whole lot of good for many people if I shared this with them.

not to overestimate the Value of our Concrete Knowledge;"Common sense"/Rationality,
for doing so would make us Blind for the unimaginable, unparalleled Capacity of and Wisdom contained within our Felt Knowledge;Subconscious Intuition.

I'd always been afraid of experiencing this after I heard about it. Then I experienced it two nights in a row, and both times it did make me feel slightly anxious, but at the same time a bigger part of me was really calm. I guess my rational thinking took over, because I, like you said, "let Old hag be" and went back to sleep. As soon as I stopped trying to fight it, it went away.

the only problem with this is actually getting your rational thinking to take over rather than your initial instinct to panic. My brother doesn't even try lucid dreaming and when I told him about it he freaked out

I've never had any "old Hag" hallucinations (though I did use to have these SP hallucinations more often), but usually after I read a myth or legend with such a creature, I remind myself, "It can't steal my breath/spirit if I don't scream." So I just envision the possible scene (the witch from Spirited away, usually, but sometimes half of Twinrova), abate my breath, and phase through the bed and floor or wait for it to go away. Then I'm not anxious about meeting it, and it doesn;t happen at all even if I have an SP occurrence that night. (still working on the rats and the shadow-thing, or finding a way to escape the spider one without waking.)

Haha yeah, I've had this happen for a long time now. A few times back I just said "whatever" and let it go. Now when it happens I just get interested in what causes it.

To JET73L - You can't scream. I used to try, but it never worked.
