replacing my bed with a hammock?

i was just curious if anyone has ever done this. i've been curious to replace my bed with a hammock for a while now. from the little bits of information out there, i know that some hammocks are better for beds than others.. mainly ones without stretcher bars.. (like Nicaraguan, Mayan, and Brazilian). but i have yet to find any first hand information. I do realize that if a woman should be sleeping with me, certain activities might be a little cumbersome, but i figure a secondary bed, such as a futon would solve that problem.

      any thoughts?

I've considered this, too. I nap in a hammock all the time. There is a whole community of people who bring hammocks hiking/ backpacking with them. I was reading through their forum a while back, and saw most of them ended up converting to a hammock at their home, also.

I think the great thing about a hammock is it rolls up easily for storage. Mount a few hooks on your walls, and you could try it out temporarily. Or you could sleep on it a few nights a week, then put it away the rest of the time.

      This!

Though as long as you use it once in a while it might be okay.

If you're worried about back trouble, space your hooks farther apart so that you get a flatter sleeping surface.

Hammocks are supposedly very good for your back. Less pressure points and all that. If you sleep in it correctly, there won't be any weird pressure on your spine.

There is definitely a trick to sleeping in a hammock. And all hammocks are not made equal. I've looked into getting a hammock for backpacking/camping, or even making my own. If you want to give the latter a shot, here's a good site with well-laid-out instructions:
