I almost WILDed a few days ago right when I got into bed, but since then I've decided to stick with WBTB. How can I fall asleep quickly so I'm not laying in bed for an hour, waiting to fall asleep?

Sweet Dreams
I learned this trick from DV, so I'll pay it forward. The biggest deterrent to sleep is movement. Once you get in a comfortable position, do not move! Resist the urge because about twenty minutes into it your brain is going to send a very stronge MOVE! signal to test if you are asleep mentally. It's got something to do with falling out of trees and ancestral primates or something. Also, don't move your eyes around too much, just unfocus into the darkness and let your mind drift and free associate. If you keep a tight focus, you'll never fall asleep. Keep a soft focus and you can still do mantras etc while falling asleep.
check out the posts on the 61 points method. works like a charm for me.
there is more than one thread on this, here is one:

Demara: keeper of the cowbell. I must give credit to beachgirl. The 61 point tech is incredible for relaxation. It will most likely put you to sleep.
I wish to add only that you may get into the habit of falling asleep while doing it which could stunt further Growth. This technique can produce OBEs & LD if you make it all the way thru & don't fall asleep. That is reason one to try Progressive Muscle Relaxation
The last reason to start with Progressive Muscle Relaxation is that it works on a gross muscular level. It is less mental work & therefore you may find it easier as a starting point. However you are just as likely to fall asleep with this tech as well
Happy Trails
lol, masturbation.
Thanks guys. I'm not planning on smoking pot xD but I'll try the techniques listed.
Drink cookies and milk :)
lol drink cookies.
go for meditation
Go to sleep faster - Practice laying without moving. This is everything, to your tounge and everything. Also practice relaxation techinques. If you are tensed at all, you're body wont want to fall asleep. This could even be your eyebrow or upper lip, who knows. But most likely you are not relaxed or you are moving around too much. I can fall asleep at any point during the day if i choose to, just by doing relaxation techniques.
And Lucidness, dont pretend like you dont know what i meant by that.
The only thing you should do in your bed is sleep. If you associate your bed with different things such as doing homework, sex, watching TV, those memories will keep you from silencing your mind. Make sure its chilly in your room.
When your mind is silent, you immediately fall asleep. Do do that, focus on your breathing as well as keep your mouth shut with your tongue glued to the roof of your mouth.
I find a comfortable position in my area i want to sleep at and do a quick checklist in my mind of things i've done today up till that point and accept that the next thing to do on my checklist is sleep, then i clear my mind, and concentrate on counting my breaths or at least acknowledging each one, then once i've slowed my heart rate i close my eyes and ignore all further impulses, i however have restless leg syndrome, so i sometimes have to really work on my concentration to stop the RLS. Then i've taken from Carlos Castaneda's technique which is to try to stay aware of you progress into sleep and find the closest moment to crossing over into sleep, and then pull yourself back into a awakened state. Practicing this will cement an actual line or gate you can cross at your will. The failed attempts often result in the "kick" or "jump" that shocks you awake that speedbasssux referred to. Once i cement this line as the point which i cross over i cross it and often within just seconds i'm in a dream, mind you my mind fashions a world for my dream but i generally accept it and interact accordingly. But to answer your question, i simply make it a part of my things to to that day to lay down and nap, or to end the day with sleep, and usually the mind will conform.
If you have problems relaxing and sleeping(to have a LD), DEILDing is one of the solutions ;)
In case you can`t DEILD for unknown reasons, you can try the previously mentioned 61 points and progressive relaxation. There`s also the not previously mentioned reverse blinking.
I've heard L-Theanine can help with relaxing for a WBTB WILD, if you don't mind buying and taking a supplement.
Hello Friends......
When I have a hard time sleeping I have a cup of warm tea with very little sugar and some crackers. The tea makes me sleepy, and the crackers are just good with it. Do not watch TV as that is a stimulant and will take you a while to relax. Try breathing exercises to calm yourself if you are going to bed right after work or something, and lastly, turn down the heat. Body's sleep best when they are cool, I turn our thermostat back to 67 for bedtime. Good luck!
Thanks
Binaural beats perhaps?
As per my thought I suggest you to find something that you really get bored and feel sleepy when you do that thing. What I mean is when I started reading at any place I start feeling sleepy even though if I sit on chair. So what I do is when I don't feel sleepy I just fall in bed and start reading and within few minutes I fall a good sleep.
Before you going to your bed just think about all good think or positive think, read some books or magazines, watch TV or think about your favourite actress , just think about that you like very much than surely you can sleep faster.
