      Sleep Deprivation and LD Practice

I've tried for a week now, roughly, to practice lucid dreaming waking up at three different times during the night. Three things happen, none of which are very useful. One, I sleep through the alarm suppose to wake me up; two, I wake up in the morning with my alarm switched off, not remembering the time during the night I woke up and turned it off; or three, I wake up during the night and have no memory of my dream or am too "dead" to get up and write it down. Worse of all, out of all of these scenarios I always feel tired most of the day the next day.

Anyone have any tips? Can you LD'ers consistently wake up throughout the night and maintain a waking life too? Does your body get used to it over time?

I go to sleep earlier if I want to wake up in the middle of the night. I haven't done it regularly enough to adapt, but eventually you may be able to. As far as sleeping through your alarm, set multiple a few minutes apart and place them where you need to get up to turn them off. Willpower is key.
The burden of proof lies with the one making the claim

What time are you going to bed and what time are you setting your alarm for?

Between 9-12, it varies. Between 90 minutes to 2 hours, it depends on how long I think it'll take before I fall asleep.

That's really quite a bit early. You're not going to get much out of that at all. You may hit a REM period, but it'll be the early ones which usually only last between 5-10 minutes. You want to hit a later period, after you've gotten more sleep and the REM period extends to anywhere between 30min to an hour.

Try setting your alarm for 4-6 hours +your estimate on how long it takes to fall asleep, then move around and do something for 15-30 min and go back to bed for another 2 hours. This should achieve you better results.

      Double:
Removed two obscenely large posts. Please always link to articles and when citing a very long article only link to the article and do not copy/paste it to the board.
