Should I use a registry cleaner/optimizer? Need to clean laptap asap

I just got this laptop this year, and i need it cleaned, when i was using a pc i used a a registry optimizer/cleaner to make pc faster because of so many installs/uninstalls, and it worked pretty good. But I seen some posts on toms hardware forum saying that these registry cleaners are worthless, what is your take on this?

Also, i'm only using 129 gigs of like 219gbs of harddrive space

Any programs recommended for cleaning laptop to increase speed? I need to stop multitasking so much also

      Thanks for any help

Yes, Windows registry is terribly designed, installing programs and uninstalling them clutters it up because programs rarely remove things from the registry when they are removed. It grows and gets fragmented, and almost everything uses it, especially on startup, so the bigger it grows, the slower everything gets. Registry problems are the biggest reason Windows slows down over time.

I've been considering using a registry cleaner as well. I found this one: Wise Registry Cleaner Free - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com The wise registry cleaner free looks like a good one. Cnet seems to be really reliable and this cleaner was high on their list. The only downside is that it requires you download the ask toolbar when you agree to the user agreement. Anyway, i haven't tried it yet because my computer is still running well. If you decide to try it, let me know how it works out.

It looks like a good cleaner. Cnet, softsonic, and pc magazine like it. I looked it up and you can download it for free. But is it one of those cleaners that is free to download and scan, but you have to pay for it to fix the problems that it finds? If not, then i might would give it a try instead of the wise cleaner.

Are you still in the Windows 9x era? If not then don't bother.
