Can some one explain me what is wordpress? From what I've understood, it's an application that serves the purpose of a blog with loads of features. I've heard about people that "save" a lot of their favourite internet content and put it there. I'm quite interested on this last part, how/why would I do it? Could it serve for a place to just store my links/articles and save websites?

You can upload different themes, customize it exactly how you want - so it's useful for alot of things and there are loads of really cool themes out there
Im not a pro with wordpress as I've only used it a few times but i must admit, it's cool
