iPod won't charge

I have a 2nd generation iPod touch. It's not really that old, since I dropped my really old one in water and had to get a new one. Anyway, so this one all of a sudden stopped charging. I have to literally hold it on my dock, pressing down on the thing for it to start charging. Basically where the connection is, I have to hold it in a certain position. I usually weigh it down with something like my psp so that it charges, but this only works sometimes and it's really impractical. Plus I am worried aout the dock breaking. Is this a hardware problem? Anything I can do? I don't think I have a warranty. Note that it isn't the dock, it's the iPod itself - every charger I use is the same.

There's a website called iFixit which posts guides on how to open up and fix any iDevice, Apple computers, and game systems. This page at iFixit might help you with the water damage and here's the page specifically relating to fixing a iPod Touch 2G.

I don't think I'm capable of opening it up and fixing it myself. Besides, I don't even know what the problem is, so I have no idea what I should do once it's open, anyway. I traded in my old water damaged one for a discount on this one, so I don't have that one anymore anyway.

That works too. From what I could tell, on iFixit you can't even buy a new logic board (what's probably broken). Is it a refurbished second generation or a newer one?

Hrm. I think it was new when I got it. It's not the port itself that's broken?

Wow, I misread your first post. Sorry. I didn't realize that your waterlogged iPod and your newer not charging one were two different devices.

Apple device not working like you want it to? Trash it and buy a new one! That's the Apple way!

Really though, if you don't think you can manage the repair on your own, your options are basically find a repair shop or replace it. Choice just depends on how serious the damage is vs. the cost of replacing it.

Hahah, seriously. X3 I was hoping for it to be a simple thing like "clean out the port" or whatever... I don't feel like replacing this thing. Meh, I guess I have no choice though. I probably won't repair it because I want a newer version anyway.

Those look really nice. Pretty cheap, too. The only thing is that I use my iPod for Internet pretty often (and it's my dream journal).

If you're talking about an iPod touch then yeah, the Sansa won't have a few of those capabilities. If you have the money though and you have a cell contract that will be up soon definitely consider an Android phone. It's really nice to have all that stuff in one device, and mobile internet is awesome.
