My laptop is having issues

I was browsing the Internet (YouTube to be exact) when my browser froze, followed by windows, which led to a blue screen. No big deal, just turn it back on. It happens some times. Now, when I turned it on, I was greeted by the "boot device not found" message, which I've found easy enough to fix with a simple google search: I hit f10 when it loads, reset its boot settings, exit and go. Well, it's not working now.

I got it to load up, but when I log into my computer. There's just a black screen. At first my wallpaper and the bar would load, but now nothing shows up at all. Just my cursor. I ran windows in safe mode, no problem getting it to load, so I tried a system restore. Didn't fix it.

And now I'm back to "boot device not found."

Help.

Oh, and it's a compaq precario CQ62

Edit: forgot to mention; I keep getting an "internal battery error" when I turn it on. That was like that for a few weeks/months, though, all the battery is doing is not holding a charge.

going to bump this instead of making another topic, I'm having problems again.

I got an window with an error last night that said "windows detected a hard disk problem." It asks me to back up my hard drive. I looked around for answers but all I'm getting is "replace the drive." I ran a CHKDSK thing since that was what one of the sites I read said to do, and let it run overnight. This morning I turned on my laptop and the error still persists. What's that option, "reset disk to normal?" Will that fix it? Will it wipe out my drive?

The harddrive is almost definitely broken at a hardware level. If you still have warranty, you can probably get something done through that channel. Otherwise just buy a new harddrive, or a new laptop entirely. You might be able to install the harddrive in another computer and get some files off of it.

One last thing you could try is, is booting your laptop in Linux, through a mobile storage unit, like a USB stick or external harddrive. You can do a bit of troubleshooting that way, maybe recover some files, but it's unlikely that you can do anything to remedy the root of the problem.
