Just go with a external hard drive
external HD is too much trouble because I have multiple computers in seperate rooms
Uh, rsync? Ha-ha.
Just set up a machine with a Raid-5 array on it
should be all you need, tbh
Yeah I have the same thing. Windows shared folders is dead simple, and it's pretty handy too. I have all my stuff on one computer with a big hard drive, and select folders are shared across the network. It works perfectly, and it's pretty fast too. I don't really notice much of a speed difference between that and a local harddrive.
There's also network RAID arrays out there, though their customizability/upgradability is limited.
Consider that thirded, actually. RAID is probably your best bet if you're serious, but if you want a cheap "I don't really care that much" backup system, then you could possibly get by with rsync. Windows Folder Sharing? It's lovely, but, frankly, utterly useless as a robust backup solution.
old topic but if your still looking western digital just released there one TB my book. it has ethernet and usb interface. its pricy at 400 bucks but its great for over 2 computers.
