hey guys,
ok, so i got my new xbox 360 premium, and i connect up all the little cables and the like, and i get a good hdmi picture on screen, but i have no sound. i read through the tv manual, the xbox manual, and any other manuals i could find lying around that would be of help, and eventually came to the conclusion that
my xbox needs to output pcm/lpcm sound!!
how can i switch to that from the dashboard?
please help, otherwise this is 460 euro down the drain...

Are you absolutely sure the Xbox sends audio over the HDMI cable?
I was under the impression they sent analogue audio over a separate cable (dual phono) as most TV's still can't handle digital audio properly
I would put my money on the problem being you trying to use HDMI for the picture and then the phono leads (component) for the sound, which you cannot do. You would need to use an amp or something to channel the sound. That or use component for your picture and component audio.
So:
HDMI picture > amp for sound
Scart for picture & sound
Video in > phono sound
As Ynot says most TVs cannot handle digital audio, you would need to use the digital audio lead for this if yours can, if you look on the cable on the 360 there is a digital out slot, I think this is at the point which goes into the xbox, you need to use a lead (which they dont supply you) to then go into the TV. If you look it should have a red light.
But in all honesty you should be going through an AMP and a kick ass 5.1 system :D
Well, I've never used HDMI, but if you use the separate optical cable, that still == digital audio ;). Can't comment on where audio through HDMI stands, but I thought it was pretty much working at this point. But that was just a guess, based on my friend's setup.Quote:

thanks for everybodies help, i really appreciate it. after reading what all yous have said, i decided to just leave the tv audio, and am goin to set up a separate sound system, using a couple of amps that ill buy while im over here in japan.
