I use Ares, but I suppose this applies to any one of those programs. What is going on when the status of the file you are trying to transfer is "connecting?" Right now my program is showing that it has found a bunch of users for said file, but it's been "connecting" for quite a while now. Would restarting Ares help?
Edit: I just answered my own question by restarting it, and it does help. But still, what's going on when it's connecting for like a ridiculous amount of time to no avail?
I always wondered that too, but when mine got stuck connecting I'd normally just cancel and find another copy to DL
It means that Ares found a source for the file, but is unable to establish a connection to it. That user may have gone offline or turned off Ares. Ares holds on to the address of the source, hoping that it will come back on at some point. It may also be looking for alternative sources, but I'm not sure.
It means you need to get your butt off Limewire and get a torrent application.

www.utorrent.com has the best one available at the moment.
The Pirate Bay and Mininova are the two best places to find torrents. (Private sites are better, but harder to find and require membership).
Seriously, get rid of Ares, Limewire, Kazaa, eDonkey or whatever the heck else you're using--decentralized are better in virtually every way.
I'm using Ares. How are those better? I do like using torrents, but sometimes I find it more difficult to locate what I want.
I've heard that the people that deal with pirate'd music have put a few 'fake' downloads on the torrents things, to bust people who download them. Not only that, but I've dealt with torrents before and disliked the system. I'll be sticking with Ares.
Curious application, that Ares.
I went to download it and upon arriving at SourceForge and starting the download all of Firefox froze dead.
I don't even want to know what it'd do to my system if I were to actually launch the installer. >.<
(Yes, I'm aware the app itself can't cause that but since I can't find it in me to blame SourceForge...)
I used Ares with my PC before I switched over to Mac. Now I use FrostWire and its your typical LimeWire application. Hmph. I LOVED Ares, though! Good choice, Mes ;)
I find that I'll use a P2P program just for one individual song. If I want a whole album then I'll look for torrents. I use this website http://torrents.to/ and you just plug in what you want and keep going through to the next website. Works like a charm! :boogie:
Use Limewire, it does torrents too. It uses java though so the user interface is so slow.
To date, all RIAA lawsuits have been targeted at users of Limewire and especially Kazaa. Torrents downloaders have not been the recipients of any lawsuits to date.

By the way, if you "move" the music out of the shared music, this prevents you from seeding the file, this is considered as a "hit-and-run", this is frowned upon in many sites and can easily get you banned on many registered torrent sites. The problem with uploading/seeding files is that it seems to be the way of getting tracked down by the authorities.

Bluetack has a good, frequently updated filter, but I don't know if or how you could set up Ares to use it.

As far as I'm aware, not many torrent trackers have active policies against users with <1 sharing ratios. That's typically something done on private/special torrent tracker portals that require registration (not that registration is required for a tracker to track ratios, I imagine) in the community and whatnot, where the administration is interested in upholding wholesome sharing, offering benefits to those with high ratios and all such.Quote:
