just thought I'd add, cause that article sounded a bit alarmist...
Kubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron) is still being released alongside Ubuntu 8.04 - in April, I believe
but Kubuntu will only receive the standard 18 months support from Canonical
(after which, the next version will be out (8.10), and support will move onto the new version - with LTS for Kub*)
The Gnome counterpart for 8.04, on the other hand, will receive the long term support (3 years for desktop, 5 years for server)
