Hey guys, i was just curious: How do I become an administrator on this site? Do you guys get new admins, or do you just stick with the ones you have?
you buy the site out
:P
We stick with the ones we have. We certainly don't need anymore admins. :D
Look in the 'Announcements and Rules' thread and you can see the threads announcing some new admin from ages ago.
I'm fairly sure once you reach 100,000 posts they give you admin status, though. Get posting!
Hahah, this reminded me of that one thread a while ago about "generations" of Dream Views members. Someone was convinced that generations switch swiftly or some such to the effect that we would all some day soon just "get up and die".
I certainly hope our admins are healthy enough. >.<
why is the thread in tech talk anyway?
Are you serious? the more posts i do, the better rank i get?
It's not the post count, that's for sure :P
There's two ways, but to become admin I suggest the latter:
1) Spend years on this forum, helping people out. Work your way from member to dream guide to moderator and selflessly help and police the shi(r)t that people come up with, every day. I did that for a few years, and I'm only a moderator, so admin is more for those with hands on website admin desires (that I don't necessarily want).
i.e. if you can be shown to be useful and trustworthy and selfless and etc etc then this might work. Eventually.
2) Put your money where your heart is
IMHO...
Whoa, what?
I once tryed to become a player mod on runescape, it's probably even harder here, mods aren't picked every month, I think mods might be picked here every couple of years, and that depends on how many of the mods are around, if they stay then it depends on how big the forum gets, but I imagen both factors contrabute, and the obvious fact that you have to put out that good natured vibe that the admins have to get picked, amoung the many 100 or so top posters. If your a top poster at all. There may be even more nowadays.
I used to beleive that too, because there used to be these groups of friends, that would come and it would seem they would all leave together, but I still see members from 4 years ago, most of them are mods that stick out though :P, but I havn't made any attempts to looks around and see who is here from 4 years back, but even I don't remember the forums very well from that time, except one of seekers old avatars from 2004. It was a younger guy kind of animish if I recall right, made me think of him as younger.
Well yeah, in order to become an ADMIN, you'd have to pay more money than Asher, and convince everybody that you're better than Asher.
If you want to become a moderator, you'll just have to prove your self fitting. A delicate process, give us all your benjaminsthat can't simply be worded.
You don't really have to prove yourself fitting, you just have to be here a long time ago. A couple years ago I became a mod for a while, and mainly just because I had been here for a couple years at that point (I resigned by the way).
you can't really compare your experience back then with now, though
I'm not one of the original, core members - by any means - but I've been there in other forums
and when a forum's small and young, authoritative positions are not really integral to the smooth running of things
it's more a group of friends
the bigger the forum gets (like DV, now)
the less you can piss around with the staff format
Well if your not a top poster then you won't be known very well I don't mean people who post 10-20 times a day I mean people who are common here.
And it's quite obvious to me why he would want to be an admin, I don't think I have to mention why. But maybe it is hard to comprahend to some people.
Admin = More attention (sorry guys had to say it, just because people want attention doesn't mean they are brats, as long as it's not bad attention)
Also greater influence that comes with more attention.
Keep in mind mods did not become mods because they wanted attention, I simpley stated reasons someone would like to become a mod.
disclaimer:
please don't take this as some sort of disparaging slur
I merely mean I don't see burns or pj tweaking the db, or upgrading php
(ie, admining)
oh, crap
never mind...
