I've been trying to get an invite to waffles.fm, what.cd, or indietorrents.
Does anybody have any of these, and could they give me an invite once they are open?
PM. ;)

T'is illegal.
Shh!
I never thought you of all ppl would be on the wrong side of the law STephen!
Its only a short step from illegaly downloading music and movies to robbing lichor stores!!!
torrents aren't illegal. file sharing is illegal, but not torrents themselves. In fact, we should be allowed to link to torrents, because they are not actual information.
Yeah, owning a gun shouldn't require a licens either, though shooting with one should.
That's what you meant, right?
Actually, no, but nice attempt at an analogy.
I would say torrents themselves are more analogous to owning metal. Or perhaps I would say they would be more analogous to the thought of owning a gun.
As said, torrents are NOT REAL DATA.
File sharing isn't illegal, either (not in itself)
Sharing copyrighted material without consent from the copyright holder is illegal
Hell, I shared the WoW updates over bittorrent just last night
(Blizzard uses BitTorrent to distribute the World of Warcraft updates)
Correct, and not all torrents link to copyrighted material either, but the kind of torrents he's asking for, link to copyrighted material. Torrents that link to that kind of stuff are illegal in most countries, though ie. Sweden is an exception.
As far as I know, the USA do not allow these kind of torrents, and neither does most of Europe.
If you own a DVD of some film,
bought and paid for
is it illegal to download a copy? (it's often easier than ripping it yourself)
It is, unless you have some kind of DVD-key from the makers, so that you can download the DVD digitally from their website.
As an example, it is also illegal to use a cracked .exe file, so that you can avoid changing discs, when you launch a game that requires the right discs to be inserted. Making an image of your discs is not illegal though, and you can use that for avoiding disc changing.
bugger
well, I've stolen a lot of films
paid for a lot, too
seeing as I'm already "stealing"
I may as well not pay for them in the first place....
Haha, Ynot. That pretty much illustrates the point (that last sentence). And marvo, he actually said he just wants an invite to a torrent site, nothing about copyrighted material.
I realize that the kind of site he's looking for, has the possibility of not being of an illegal nature. However, you, I and everybody else who's read this thread, knows that that's not the case.
Of course, legal always defeats logic, so in our objectical minds, we'll have to assume he's gonna download Linux distros and generally opensource files.
Wouldn't you agree?
Pretty much.
I mean, according to your logic (keeping on the gun analogy), I can say "Hey, you can't buy a gun, because many people kill with guns!"
That's a pretty big step.
I have bought some music, but because I have around 6000 songs on my iTunes, lots of it has been downloaded. :P If anything, it's the smallest of illegal things. Copyrighted material, yes, mass produced and sold, also yes. If you're talking about a moral concept, then I view it as less wrong than some can make it out to be; if you're talking about it as a conceptual value as if, "Hey, it's a law and laws should be obeyed," then you're right on most areas. These people are most likely long dead or they have enough money, as do the record labels and producers. :( I have almost all of the music from the last 30-40 years that I want, even though a new album will come into my sights every now and then. :P Most is old, probably hard to find music.
I do it because I have a huge love of music. Not because I'm an anarchist bent on defying the law. Bad argument.
As for anybody who would actually condescend me or others for doing something so infrequently as such a small crime (), please evaluate your perfect, saintly actions and report back.
This makes me remember Demonoid... I think I'm going to cry.
isohunt is the best, by far.
