Dreamviews Portrait Mode

I've been reading on my Wind today amidst comics and such, and just sort of stumbled into this, but DV works quite well in portrait mode. The composition window is the exception, as it's fixed for a 1024p wide orientation, but honestly I'm typing perpendicular right now and it's not bad at all.

I just wondered if anyone else has opportunity to view DV portrait style. I think much of the web could benefit from such a view, particularly forums. On my wishlist is a nice armature for my desktop LCD, and/or a potential second LCD down the road. It just seems so natural to view certain aspects of the web in portrait, like a page.

Any thoughts?

Portrait as opposed to landscape, with the longer dimension of your screen vertical. I use it a lot for comic books (desktop and netbook) and ebooks (just netbook). If you pick up a nice after-market stand or arm for your desktop LCD, they're made to allow it, but at present I just turn mine on its side and brace it against the tower.

I don't much expect it to catch on, but it is more comfortable reading and gives you a view of more info for a lot of web content. Most pages being designed for 1024 pixel width, you're not even losing width if the narrower dimension of your screen exceeds that. There are also some handy programs for quick-rotating your display 90°, though mostly I only turn my monitor for CDisplay, which rotates the images itself. That's how I look at it on my iphone, although the resolution isn't quiet the same :P

That really does sound more comfortable for forums (as well as my silly java compiler).
Now I'm wondering why exactly we have made landscape the standard in the first place.

Yeah, that. Monitors have stayed in lockstep with televisions, moving on to a widescreen standard, but with the new standard comes the opportunity to turn it on its side and take back a page-style view. Drop $40-80 on a stand or $75 and up on an arm, and install irotate, and it's as simple as giving the monitor a turn and hitting Ctrl+Alt+Arrow.

That arm I linked is definitely on my wish list, not just for portrait mode but overall ergonomics and making it easier to angle the monitor at my futon. I actually ordered it a couple months ago and then canceled to steer money toward Phish tix :D
