I've had this PC for a while now, and I need a processor, preferably dual core so as to run games at a good rate without a slide-show.
The motherboard I have is an Abit Nf7 i believe. The processor I have right now is an AMD Athlong XP 1500+ ( It is 1.3 GHZ ). For the processor I need something that is cheap and not too expensive, and fast. Cheap and fast. Recommendations?
Another thing, where can i buy an xbox 360 power chord for the cheap?

You need an AMD socket A processor, with 333MHz FSB
so the fastest CPU you can do is an Athlon XP 3200+
This is a uni-core processor,
Unfortunately there's no chance of a multi-core processor with your current motherboard
Your processor has little do with with how good your game looks. Modern games' graphics are done almost exclusively on the graphics card, which tend to have between 4 and 16 cores.
If your computer's fairly old, I would splurge and get yourself a new computer, you can get a new gaming computer for $1000.
As for the Xbox power cord: eBay.

I have a 128MB graphics card, but that's fine for now..my processor is only 1.3ghz, it's slow as hell.
I have another computer that was fried during a storm..I don't know if the motherboard is damaged or not, but the PSU is probably dead and gone because it won't turn on anymore. How can I tell if the motherboard got fried? If the motherboard is still good, I can get a processor and a PSU for that pc. I have nowhere near 1,000bucks for a computer, that's a LOT of money. I'm not sure what processor my other pc has, but I think it might be intel. It has a black 6x6 heat fan thingy over it, so it's probally small and square.

If you have $1,000 just buy a new computer. That's plenty money to build one yourself, or even buy a prebuilt. I don't see the point in trying to revive old parts that might be broken, just scrap it and buy a new one.Quote:

Graphics are not done on the CPU unless your graphics cards are fried (as mine are on this machine), and even a powerful processor will give tiny framerates (I get about 5 frames a second).
Secondly, any modern hardware would be incompatible with your existing machine.
Thirdly, even if the hardware was compatible, you would have so many bottlenecks elsewhere that the improvement would be worthless because you wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.
Upgrading single components is something only worth considering on very high end systems, where the other components are fast enough to not be a bottleneck. For an old system it's not worth it, and you're far better off buying a new one, in terms of the performance increase/cost ratio.
