FREE virus removal FAST

After using a plethora of free anti viruses to try to mend my computer problems with few positive outcomes, I have arrived at the opinion that formatting my hard drive is perhaps the only way to 100% rid my computer of the mal-ware which plagues its. This solution may not be for everybody, however all you have to do is back up any files that you need, format your hard drive and then reinstall your Operating System.

I am actually having what appears to be some minor technicalities associated with this, and I would appreciate any answers from those who know their way around a computer.

Thanks. What I am doing is going to Safe mode with Command Prompt, then I input the command Format C or Format C: and then it says that I need to input the number for Drive C's Volume label in order to Format my hard drive.

There in lies the problem, I do not know what my volume label is. Any ideas?

If you open My Computer, the current volume label is the name of the volume.
For instance, it can say "WinXP (C: )", then "WinXP" is your volume label.

Sorry to hear someone else is having virus troubles.
My hubby swears by some program (I'll have to ask tomorrow what it is) that reformats the computer some 7 times- only then is the computer completely virus etc free (or so he swears).

The only point in formating the harddrive 7 times is to make sure non of the former data can be recovered. But if you just want to get rid of a virus, a quick-format will suffice. It won't come back on it's own.

Do you have dual boot? I ask because, normally, the OS gets installed in C drive, meaning you can't format it while in Windows (unless things have changed after XP and I'm a bit outdated on my info, in which case, sorry...:cheeky: ).

Security tool a pain in the butt virus that I have had a few times. It along with the other fake anti virus programs can be a real pain in the ass to deal with. They will normally try to disable system restore then break your antivirus program, so you can't use it. As well as stop you from opening programs.

I am having a virus problem right now as well, but its mostly just annoying. This is what I am doing, that works pretty well for me.

I run Avira all the time. It is a free antivirus program, and it works really well in stopping most problems. I also have Malwarebytes, which I use to scan for viruses once a problem has appeared. It is also free.

It seems to be a good combo, since the two will catch most things. I had problems with viruses disabling malwarebytes, and avira seems to stop that cold as well. So they kind of protect each other. Malwarebytes is probably the better program but it doesn't remain active all the time unless you buy the full version. And you really need something always active and on.

That said, I still got problems with this one virus on my computer. Neither malwarebytes or avira can spot it. I even tried manually looking for it but I can't find it.
