Good techniques for keeping your mind awake?

      Hello,

I have been trying to WILD for months now with no success, I wake myself up with alarms during my REM peroid, and feel completely awake, yet I fall alseep in a matter of minutes if I lie down. So then I try to enter SP but all that happens is I fall asleep long before I even start feeling numb, how should I keep my mind awake? (counting doesn't work).

I've heard of multiple ways. You should check different wilding methods on the forums, but i've heard of focusing on breathing, holding a note in your head, having a song in your head. Again these are ones i've heard of. They may not work. Try going through the forums, and especially the tutorial area.

If you fall asleep THAT fast, you should probably do something to awake you. Maybe stay up for like five minutes, or you could switch positions or sleep somewhere slightly less familiar.
      Lucid dreams, gotta love em.

classic WBTB is to get up and stay up for one to two hours.

Thanks for the help, the danger with staying up for too long is that if stay up past a certain point, I can't go back to sleep at all.

I like to imagine myself doing something familiar and repetitive. Sometimes I will pair it with some breathing exercises or counting.

I haven't totally given up on WILDs yet, but I can't see myself having serious luck with them. I'll give them a try once school starts and I get my old sleep patterns back again, but I just think with some people it's too hard or even impossible to do just because of how you are. I have a hard time holding attention on one particular thing, plus I overthink everything too much, so I don't know how easy it's gonna be for me to ever get this technique.

I know, that is true, but I also believe it's smart to capitalize on your natural abilities. In the case of dreaming, I have a badass internal clock and can pretty much decide when I want to wake up before I go to sleep, so I can use that to my advantage with things like DEILD, FILD, and CANWILD, not having to really worry too much about traditional WILDs themselves.

I fully agree with you, but my point was not that you shouldn't be confident, but that you should know your limits and your capabilities and work with and/or around them.
