Scared to scare myself
I have only successfully WILD'ed once. And I consider it dumb luck. (I was able to wake up, lay still, and go into a WILD). So now, every once in a while, I will attempt to do a WILD. Unfortunately, because of school and work, I don't want to interupt any sleep. Which is why I recently have only tried it during naps, or before going to sleep. I've heard this hard to do.
Anyway.. I managed to get to a state where my whole body felt numb. I was pretty sure I was starting to achieve sleep paralyzis. It felt like my feet were in sleep paralyzis, and I was uncertain about the rest of the body. (I didn't dare to try to wiggle my toes or anything to check).
Suddenly my vision darkens utterly, and I kind of feel absent from my body. I see a single light, dart across my vision, left-to-right. I figured this was the hallucinations starting. Last time I WILD'ed, I only saw lights, and heard some noises. Anyway, suddenly I think of getting scary Hallucinations, which I've read alittle about.
This made me kind of upset, with me already having a slight fear of the dark and stuff. So I try to make a nice mental image in my head. (In attempt to affect the HI's). So, I think of a sheep (for some reason?). My paranoia instantly turns this mental image into some sheep-zombie human hybrid. And when I heard a faint sound, I panicked and opened my eyes. The sound had been my roommate, from a nearby room.
Is there anyway avoid HI's being creepy? (They weren't to me the first time)
Are they effected by such "mental images"?
How scary can HI's really be?

Unfortunately I don't think there's much one can do to avoid scary hallucinations... :( But it might help to just imagine yourself in your room with the lights on, and knowing nothing's really there. To other people, you just look like you're taking a snooze. Or, like you already said, it helps to create a mental image, but don't get distracted by the HI that are happening.
My (unreliable) guess is that HI are probably affected by placebo, or what you think they'll be like, so try not to expect the worst. Who knows, it might help.
I've had the scariest shit HI one would probably ever read on this forum. And it happened before I even heard of sleep paralysis. I'm not going to post it in fear of scaring the newbies off, but if you'd like to know, PM me. :) I think it's the tip of the iceberg in terms of scariness.
