Does it sort of feel like you have yourself floating above your true body? If so, concentrate. Stare deeply into the back of your eyelids, you'll feel as though you're getting sucked into something, and concentrate VERY hard, don't think about anything too hard, and try counting slowly to 10 repeatedly, this works for some people.

What do you see or feel at the stage you're describing?
Generally around that point I notice a certain depth take over the darkness I'm seeing with my eyes closed, almost turning it into a void. At that point it's simply a matter of willing yourself into the void, so to speak.
Gosh this lucid dreaming stuff is hard to describe in a way =P.

I have the same problem. It's very discouraging, too, because I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I only ever go numb in my outer arms and legs, my torso always sort of feels the same. I've never seen HI or anything. It's very frustrating. I often feel like I'm almost too aware, so I'll try and visualize something to sort of aid in the process, but I frequently just fall asleep. I really hope someone can provide some insight to this problem.

Sometimes I get bad numbness in the extremities of my limbs, eg. feet and fingers, so much they feel that if I were to move them, my bones would crack. I can suggest getting a hot water bottle and putting it near whatever becomes numb, because it might be from lack of circulation or movement.
