WILDing and eye focus levels, i need help please.

Ok guys, ive noticed while trying to to the wild technique where you just lye still for awhile to WILD, that there are SO many different levels of eye focus, and i dont know which level i should be looking at.

Ive just tried lying there for seriously 2 and a half hours straight, and trust me my body has never been so relieved in its life that i moved lol.

But you see ive never had any HI's yet so i dont know what i should bee looking out for, and i think its due to i may be using the closest eye focus level, instead of looking further back and using a further eye focus level, i really dont know and it would be great if someone oculd clear that up.

Its hard for me though, because when i shut my eyes, my lids still flicker as if they were blinking anyways, just very slightly while they are closed idk if this is messing my focus up im not sure.

Every now and then i just try to move my pinky like 1mm, to check and i can NEVER fully achieve full SP.
I get waves of leadness, and sometimes get high pitched noises, but i just cant seem to get there.

Ive been trying this for, hmm im not sure, maybe a few months now, at all different times, after doing WBTB's (30min waits), but i normally fall asleep and cant do it, so that being in the mornings, ive done it mid day, ive done it in the afternoon, and at night, none of which i have been able to achieve Lucidity......
Im quite bummed about it, because i have an insane amount of imagination, and whilst being in bed being still, i can really imagine what i want to do, but it just being grey and fuzzy, instead of vivid, and lucid, you know?


So what do you guys think i should do/try?
Any hints or tips, or even tutorials you might want to pass along?

First off all you shouldn't be waiting or looking out for anything. This way you'll never succeed. Secondly there is no need to lie completely still all the time, just itch, swallow, change position, whatever. You are taking a wrong approach, I suggest reading this and this.

Ive read why you fail at wilds, but i couldnt fully grasp what he was saying, and yeah im pretty sure im taking the wrong approuch the more i read, plus im not getting anywhere with it lol, ive never had a full lucid dream, only a few seconds of Lucid through some, i really wanna have a full one.....

In short the message of both tutorials is 'fall asleep!'

What you are doing is keeping you too awake. To freely quote BillyBob:

The problem is just staying aware enough when falling asleep so you will know that it is a dream but not being too aware (resulting in lying awake in bed for over 2.5 hours). It requires time and work to find the right method for yourself.

Yeah reading those basically spun around ERVYTHING i thought i knew about WILDing, so basically it sounds really easy now, i just need to find the right anchor that works for me, and when my REM periods are. Wow, it even FEELS less stressful too lol

That's great to hear, stress only works in your disadvantage! I hope you'll be able to figure everything out and be come an able WILDer :).

Oh and by the way, the worst thing that can happen to you when trying a WILD is that you'll fall asleep without retaining consciousness, at least you won't lie awake for over 2 hours in your bed anymore!

Yeha lol like last night xD I was like OK ill wake up stay up for abit and try it..... Woke up stayed up for only like 1min and was like ok.... (lol) went to try and do it but fell asleep, all the while i woke up like 4 more times tried it all those times but kept falling asleep lol. It was quite late when i went to bed... So tonight ill try it with a decent hour lol.

Shadowmilo, some people don't see HI when they WILD. I very rarely ever do. Although the vast majority of my WILDs are in-dream (yep, already sleeping... usually because I catch a false awakening, so I WILD then)... I have done them going from awake to sleep... and my transitions are usually seamless. Meaning, I don't even know they just happened. And I will be dreaming that I'm lying there on the couch, thinking I haven't transitioned yet.

I would suggest that you not attempt a WILD until you've had at least 4 hours of solid sleep. If you find you go to sleep too quickly, you might need to stay awake longer during your WBTB. If you want amazing results, stay awake a full hour. After an hour, you will be awake enough that the awareness factor starts to turn back on. Yes, it is harder to fall back to sleep, which is why it's so important to really relax first. Focus on releasing tension from your muscles, and sinking deeper into relaxation with each exhale. Combined with relaxing and being passively aware of your anchor (which could be the sound of your breath, if you so desire); the SP, falling asleep, and even whatever HH you may experience will come naturally. You can't force this part, it will come on it's own accord.

So you think i should go to bed at 10:30pm, wake up at 4:00am, and wait till 5:00am then make sure i really relax before trying to go to sleep to try to WILD, gosh i hope that getting in to my first pure LD i dont exit straight up from being too excited lol.
Im starting to lose interest in doing it cause im failing so many times, although i was doing it wrong, i does kill alil inside each time it fails.... i just dont want to wake up and go to bed at 5:00am and it not happen and be a waste of my time..... Up side though id be sleepy so i could have a sleep in the afternoon, but if i was to do it then i could only sleep for 1 hour before i tried doing it.
You know i just dont want to fail..... god with my imagination..... it would be ridiculous but grrrr, failing....... ....... o.o.... im too negative xD I just realised.

So basically ill go to bed at 5:00am. Relax, TRY to go to sleep, whilst trying to stay conscious using my anchor (which i dont know what would work yet.... actually, could music work, the sound of the beach?? I have that to play when i try to LD maybe ill do that) AND HOPEFULLY ill be able to WILD and stay concious get in CHUCK A PARTY.... and probs wake up instantly, and rage quit. Lol.

Alright, so between 10:30 and 4am is 5.5 hours of sleep... it's decent... but consider this... we sleep in approximately 90 minutes cycles. Cycle 3 is roughly 4.5 hours of sleep, and cycle 4 is roughly 6 hours of sleep.

5.5 hours falls dead in the middle of a sleep cycle. At this time of the morning, your REM sleep is longer, and it is on the close side to 6 hours, so you might actually be either interrupting REM sleep, or... you'll be waking up just before it begins.

Timing is very tricky when you WILD...

I understand it's really frustrating. WILD is a very frustrating technique. I actually don't recommend first time lucid dreamers to use it at all. Some people are predisposed to it, and can get it right away, but a vast many people come in here thinking, "OMG, WILDs are awesome because you start the dream lucid!!! :panic: " then try for 3 weeks and give up because they can't do it.

So I'm wondering, what is it for you, about WILDing, that makes it look better than the other half of the techniques? I advise you have a peek at the DILD and MILD techniques in the Wiki. There's more things that you can do, during the day, to increase your chances of having a lucid dream, and they also don't hit your sleep schedule as hard as WILDs can. Wake Back To Bed's can be as long as you like (enough to get out of bed and use the washroom, thinking about your goals and lucidity, and go back to sleep thinking about recognizing yourself in a lucid dream). It's really in the quality of time spent. The major thing is, you don't want to fall back to sleep losing your mind and losing your focus/intent of having a lucid dream.

Yeah, no i think i can get WILD's working jsut i had the wrong form before, i tried last night but my watch stopped working (ironic) so i had no alarm, and i went to bed late trying to fix it, so i got up after 6.5 hours of sleep, and styed up only 10mins, only that was what i could keep my eyes open for xD Then went to try it but lost myself... i tried serveral times after that to do it also.... but kept falling asleep xD its been 2 nights of not great sleep, im hoping tonight is different, alohough sleep patterns are hit now that daylight savings have kicked in..... soooo yeah.

But we'll see how we go and yeah ill have a look at other techniques, there are so many custom or altered ones i just didnt know which ones to look at, i honestly can not do a dream journal, but i have great dream recall anyways... sosoo yeah. lol

Ok guys, so i woke up at 4:09am this morning, i made sure to note it, meaning the end of a REM cycle is what i believe.... actually it may have been the start of one as i mantra'd id wake up in a dream, but then changed it, it must of still got through... crap now im not sure, but if its 90min cycles roughly, does that mean i should wake up at 5:40am and ill be in a REM period?
It'd be great to know whne in a period, althoguh i dont know when i went to bed so maybe it doesnt work :P

Oh well, its off for bed for me, my biggest LD chance killer is i fall asleep lol. I think my anchor will be soft music, but if i WBTB for 3mins or more, i think ill find i wont get back to sleep... at all.... im not sure..... lol

Ok guys, so is there a section on finding your REM period cause i cant find it so, if you guys can help with finding my REM sleep that'd be great.

So i went to bed at 10:45pm roughly. And i calculated the cycle times i should be looking around is 3:30am and 5:00am. Now i dont know which is the start of a REM period, as i dont know how many periods there are before the first REM and 2nd REM. you stated that your roughly 90mins per cycle, so im just basing it off that.
Now i woke up RIGHT NOW lol, and it was exactly 4:30 on the dot. Now im going to try to stay up for the hour, but i REALLY hope i can actually get back to sleep.... Plus as i stated before my anchor is music so i hope my brain doesnt think i want to listen to it and stay awake lol. (Even though its beachy sounds)

So how do i work out my REM from here? I know its the end of SOME cycle, because as i read somewhere i had alot of water, and you wake up after cycles but you just dont know it, and your body will make you go to the toilet, just because your up and awake. So how cani tell which period it is guys?

EDIT: WELL HALLELUJAH......... FREAKING FINALLY!!!! It may not of been a WILD, but that hour really helps the logic to turn on, not all the way, as i forgot to do alot of things, and it all isnt vividly memorized in my head but, YESSSSSSS, i do remember vividly saying, wait on a minute, i wouldn't be able to do this in RL. Then BAYUM. I remembered to rub my hands and spin out, but i dont think ill spin around again, it all went blurry and i think i destabilized it im not sure. But then, being a teen, and apparently men are erect whilst in REM, it turned sexual :P. But i also did try something ive also wanted to do, is fire. But it was not very awesome, so ill now look at a shit load of picture of fire, moving fire etc to get it more realistic, but YYESSSSSS, SERENITY I LOVE YOU FOR MAKING ME DO 1 HOUR lol.
I found i put on the music for an anchor realllyyy soft, but i either a) couldnt fall asleep and the music stopped (its and hour) or i fell asleep with its soothing sounds and week up and it had stopped, so im GUESSING that at 4:30 i had ENDED a REM period, as i didnt dream if i woke up with the music stopped. So i just decided to go to sleep but i swear consciously i thought id get LD because of something, but meh i still let myself go to sleep with not much hope ill pick up a sign, as i never do, but i did WOOHOO. Plus it think it either got unstable or i was losing REM, and i faded out but quickly rethoguht what i was doing and reentered, so WOOHOO FOR REMEMBERING MY LD STUFF, now ill just remember to experience everything else i wanted too but forgot xD

For my first try im ok if its alil hazey, im not used to being a wake for an hour, so id imagine the brain is zonked whilst your still trying to hold consciousness it would be quite stressful.

So all in all im FREAKING HAPPY, and ill start a to do list n go at it everynight, once i know my REM sleep times, WILDing will be possible, as i think the times im thinking of arent right :P
