SP, Maybe?
I took a nap today with the purpose of WILDing. I laid still, and by the time I had counted to 256 (in French), I think I started SP. My body got really heavy and tingly all over, and hypnagogic imagery started- just colored blobs behind my eyelids. My breathing got shallow, my heart was beating fast, and my eyelids were fluttering. This is where I think I messed up. I thought that if I opened my eyes, the SP would dissipate, so I tried hard to keep them closed, and I also tried to slow my breathing because I thought I wouldn't fall asleep if it was so heavy. Shortly after, the tingly heaviness left my lower body- it stayed in my arms, though- and the HI stopped. I stayed still for maybe ten minutes afterwards, but nothing happened. I checked for an FA, but alas I was awake. Where did I go wrong?

The fast heartbeat is a common hallucination during SP. You heartbeat actually slows down during this process, so just try to ignore that. Just try to relax as opposed to holding your eye lids tightly shut. Your eyes will flutter because you are entering REM directly from the waking state. REM does stand for Rapid Eye Movement after all. The key is to casually observe the HI/HH even if it is just colored blobs. Don't focus on it, but just passively enjoy it waiting for the next HI to come by. Don't try to do anything with your actual body...in fact you should completely forget about it. If you focus on your actual body once you have hit SP, it will you prolonge/keep a connection to it. This can end SP, cause the transition process to drag out, or cause great instability even if you make it into the dream state.

Ive been getting close to WILD aswell and one problem I have is my eyes start fluttering aswell. Someone suggestted relaxing and thinking about breathing or something else, if I relax I just end up opening my eyes because thats what my body wants to do. My last attempt they were really going crazy and I had to open them, ending the attempt.
Are you supposed to force them shut? Doesnt sound right but seemed like the only solution.

Its really best to just try and ignore the fluttering eyes. The more you focus on your eyes, the more connected you are to your actual body. This will cause problems with the transition and the WILD process in general. Just keep your eyelids as relaxed as possible and just don't worry about it. If something happens and you open your eyes, it doesn't mean you are screwed and have to start all over. Just close them again and go right back to what you were doing. Even if SP is broken, it will generally only take a few moments to return. Your fluttering eye problem is your mind giving you a road block. Once you overcome this problem, it is unlikely to return. Just keep practicing and you will be able to beat it. Another thing to try is, lay with your eyes open in a pitch black room for 15 or so minutes, before attempting to WILD. This will give your eyes time to adjust to darkness and they shouldn't cause you as much problems.
