WILD Keeps Failing

Hi, I had a quick question about WILDing. These are the steps I do and where I fail:

1. I lie down in a comfortable position, normally on my back.
2. I stay perfectly still and let my mind think on its own.
3. After a while, I hear a slight buzz in my ears, and some flashes on my eyelids.
4. My breathing quickens and my heartbeat races, and I have the urge to swallow.
5. I swallow.
6. Noises fade, HI fades.

Is there any advice on how not to swallow during sleep paralysis? I tried not to, but my throat closed itself and swallowed for me.:shock:

Any advice?

You could try tilting your head up a little more so that the spit drains natural. Or you could try laying on your stomach(if it's comfortable) I never have the urge to swallow when I'm on my stomach. If you do have the urge to swallow you should swallow immediately though and ignore it. If you lay there thinking about how badly you have to swallow it will be impossible to WILD. I swallow and/or move around a few times each time I WILD just don't let it take hold of your attention; do it and be done with it.

Swallowing is no big deal and should in no way affect your success or failure.

If you're mindset is where it should be, that is.

The key is to not worry about swallowing. If you have to swallow...go ahead and do it, but don't even think/worry about it. What is breaking you from SP is your own mind thinking that swallowing will cause you to fail.

Your increased heart rate is simply a hallucination. So just ignore this and continue to relax. Stay calm and just let the HI/HH wash over you.

During my WILD, I was going perfectly fine until I thought about my mouth and my tongue. I started to salivate in a matter of seconds, and it took about two minutes for my need to swallow.

Yeah, the best thing to do is go ahead and swallow and then try not to think/worry about it. In waking life you swallow, but rarely even notice/pay attention to it. That is kind of the same idea with WILDing. If you don't really pay attention to it, you will swallow and it won't harm your WILD attempt at all. Just remember that worrying about or fighting the urge to swallow is way worse for your success rate than actually going ahead and doing it.
