Let's talk non-attentive focus & SP

I sort of gave up for a while. It's been a few months and it's not that I didn't think LDing is impossible, just so very hard. If you guys don't remember, I'm one of those people who can WBTB trying to WILD and no matter how hard I seem to try (or not try) SP always wears off instead of letting me go deeper. I can wake up mid SP and still have it wear off, even when it's at it's strongest.

I've been told I just have to get used to SP or to focus, but not focus on it. Be aware of it, but don't be aware, etc.

So this discussion is about techniques for splitting your focus or trying not to be too focused on the SP process. How do you all do it? What do you liken it to? How long did it take you to get used to SP?

Basically, I watch/listen to whatever is going on, but I try not to think about what I am seeing/hearing. Of course, you will think about stuff every now and then, but I try my best to observe the HI/HH without thinking too much about it. I just continue to relax and imagine myself falling deeper and deeper into relaxation/sleep as I watch/listen to the HI/HH.

I too gave up for a long while. Just a few days ago I took up WILDing again as I have started reading more about it recently. I gave up because of similar reasons. I decided to try hard at it again. I never truly stopped trying I just tried other WILD techniques and eventually switched to meditation with a WILD attempt afterwards which discouraged me further. It seemed as though I had gotten lost in all the cross-fertilization of techniques. I am now attempting a 'reboot' and going back to the beginning, to when I was still able to fall partially into sleep paralysis except now it is taking me much less time (10 minutes as opposed to 2-4 hours). Carefully picking and choosing which parts of others techniques' I think might fit with 'my technique' will be the next task.

Anyway to further reply to your thread, It seems as though you are still very much "in tune" with lucid dreaming. It might sound funny coming from someone who is relatively new to lucid dreaming, but I too have had the chance to experience Full SP while waking up, three even led to transition, (one of which became a successful lucid dream). Sometimes when waking up in sleep paralysis/transition I would be scared, but as I got to understand the symptoms described the fact that it was only sleep paralysis I would laugh it off and say in my head "Oh! It's ONLY sleep paralysis." And do my best to go further into the final stage of sleep paralysis by giving into it. If my attempt failed, well, I knew I'd be entirely ready to try again before I wake up too much. I haven't had a chance such as this though as of recent.

As for the one and only successful attempt... I just gave into transition as if I didn't care what would or would not happen. it lasted for what seemed to be seconds and I was in an extremely vivid and real to life lucid dream. Take note that this was a WBTB and that I'm speaking about transition as I got used to partial sleep paralysis after 3-4 weeks and was able to enter full sleep paralysis occasionally after that time). To me Sleep paralysis is a comfortable process, though, I used to think "how on earth am I going to get used to this?". It is the transition that was and may still be the biggest hurdle for me but don't we make our own hurdles? I certainly did. I led myself to believe that it was impossible to enter even partial sleep paralysis. Because I believed I made it so.

I hope I've at least answered one of your questions. I will do a review of what I've written and edit it again if I find that I left out something.

I too gave up for periods of time. I've never been all that great at having LD's. I've never had a successful transition from SP to a Dream, but I did do a WBTB once. For that though, there was literally no noticeable transition. I employed a technique from the induction techniques sub-forum where I literally told myself, "100% success Bitch" which was accompanied by 5 push-ups, a short talk with my subconscious, and finally I did a FILD. As for focusing when you FILD, i don't. I just move my finger and go with the flow.

Now, as for inducing SP, as I've said, I've never actually transitioned from SP into a dream. The 1st induced SP I did was easy. I just laid down on my stomach, and focused on a single point on the back of my eye-lids and didn't stray from it. The feeling was overwhelmingly powerful the 1st time. Almost like a lead blanket being pulled over me. Ever since then, I haven't felt anything when I transition. I usually can't tell I'm in SP until I see HI.

Someone mentioned waking up in SP, so I'll address that too. I've woken up in SP countless times, but it's almost always ended with me forcing my way out due to being too paranoid. there was one time though where that didn't happen. I woke up in SP, and I was literally half in a LD, half awake. In one eye, I was seeing some crazy stuff going on that I still can't fully describe. In my other eye, all I saw was the usual wall and window. I could open and close my eyes without breaking the SP, so i know it was different for each eye. That was one weird ass experience.

Wow! I've done a FILD similar to that one I. However, my eyes were still half open when I landed into a false awakening. I tried to WILD that way last night with my eyes looking downwards while focusing on a specific shadow. I failed but will try again tonight.

In my eyes, the FILD wasn't necessarily successful... i was able to get into a LD, but I walked to my door, and tried to imagine what I wanted to do. So many thoughts raced into my head at once that I lost control and ended up losing lucidity.
