WILD Fail
It ended up being a non-lucid dream. I tried counting myself into my dreams for what must've been 40 minutes. I allowed myself to move every time I counted up to "100, I'm dreaming" so that there was less pressure on me and I could fall asleep more readily. The entire time, though, the hubby kept waking me up by moving around, chasing me across the bed and snoring in my ear. I about elbowed him in the ribs... but I didn't.
Anyway, I eventually did fall asleep counting - successful WILD, right? Nope. When I finally did start dreaming, I counted all the way up to "100, I'm dreaming", continued counting where I was from 1 and gave up around "50, I'm dreaming". The experience was so real that I genuinely believed that I was still awake. I don't know why I never thought to do a reality check. So close!
I shifted into another dream and when I did, I not only realized that I was dreaming now but -actually did- wake up because I was so furious at myself for not realizing it sooner. The loudly snoring/breathing, kicking husband certainly didn't help. : P
So after the hubby goes to work (and I can actually get some effing sleep) I'm going to try again.

I detail a better counting system here in my WILDS without prior sleep TUTORIAL
I don't want to sound like a self-promoting whore so I'll give you the gist of what I want to show you haha.
Instead of counting all the way up and then moving to expend pressure, count from one to ten. Once count for every inhalation. On each exhale, imagine your body sinking into the bed. That focus on breathing really helps that transition into a introverted mindset. Every time you reach ten, go back to one. That helps you stay somewhat conscious and prevent's your mind from endlessly counting itself to sleep.

I count with my breathing, anyway. ;D I've tried counting to 10 before but it just makes my mind restless, even when I'm just trying to go to sleep and giving myself a count to 100 keeps me from moving around to much, which is a big culprit when I can't get much sleep.
This is my first time using a version of Jeff777's technique and it's gotten me this close so far but I'll give your technique a try later. Thanks for the input.
