This is my first post, I've been trying to LD for over a year on again off again, but the last couple weeks I've been trying to WILD. My problem is that I'm a bad sleeper. It takes me at least an hour to fall asleep at night, during a WBTB, or even more during a nap. WILD is the only technique I'm trying though, so any advice? I lay there for an hour or more completely still, but can't fall asleep, much less get to sleep paralysis! thanks!
Well, quite simply, you answered your own question. You're trying to WILD AT NIGHT. Do it five hours after going to sleep.
It will take about an hour to fall asleep if you try to stay still first thing at night or in a WBTB or a nap.

Yeah, I second what jarrhead's saying. Trying a WILD right when you get into bed is very difficult; first, you're not in REM, which makes it much harder to get SP, even more so enter a dream. If you do happen to get SP (which will probably only happen if you're very tired and relaxed), you might not even enter a dream. Secondly, you're not as relaxed as you would be after waking up from being asleep for 5-6 hours. :)
Definitely try it during a nap or WBTB. Naps can mean easy SP if you have an active morning, before laying down for the WILD attempt.

you did mention a WBTB, as seconded by the kind folks above, so i shan't repeat (err, i just did, heh)
i think you should also try to figure out why you can't get to sleep easily.
-noise?
-temperature?
-uncomfortable bed?
-your hamster's wheel squeaks?
-mind running around?
-neighbors banging loudly next door?
-not tired?
-etc.
and try out some relaxation techniques. going to sleep quickly can greatly assist LD practice and life in general.

also, why ONLY WILD's? Most LD'ers also practice DILD techniques. They can often give you more results, especially at first. And if you are a particularly hard-to-get to sleep type you might benefit from at least trying out some DILD, MILD, VILD etc. Maybe you'll find something that works better for you.

Thanks everyone, your suggestions help! And to clarify, I am practicing DILD and MILD as well, I just meant that I didn't want people telling me to give up and try DILD or MILD.
BTW, that video really helps, I tried it just sitting at my computer and feel extremely tired already
I'm having a similar problem. However, I get signs of going into dreams and hallucinations... But not full on. My breathing feels weird, and my chest is heavy, I feel like I can't move my arms, but I know I can. After THREE HOURS of being perfectly still, I got frustrated and slept normally.
EDIT: By Hallucinations, I mean I saw bright blue lights beyond my eyelids. That was very strange. :P
I don't mean to bring this thread back but I didn't think the Google search I did would lead me here at all. Anyway, I seem to have the same problem. I'll lay perfectly still for a pretty long time, but nothing happens other than seeing a lot of hypnagogic imagery, weightlessness (sometimes), hearing sounds of a dream (sometimes), and feeling my arms or legs becoming numb, but I can still move them. (Should I not do that?)
At some point or another, I guess I completely forget what I was trying to do that I fall asleep. :panic:
