The last few nights have been with no success, because I always lose conciousness while I'm trying to WILD! Any tips? (I also pair WILD with WBTB)
Well, I attempted my first WBTB last night, and I found that counting your breaths to 10, then restarting is not only relaxing, but can help to keep your mind awake as you enter SP. I entered, and had a short, but successful lucid dream. The great thing about this is your mind is kept awake, but you can still let your mind sort of wander. Just be prepared to take control when you start to enter the dream.
Alright, good idea! How long did it take you to enter SP, Typho?
Don't actively try to keep yourself from falling asleep. You need to fall asleep for this to work. You just need to keep your mind busy while it happens. I normally need something a bit more engaging than counting. If I am counting my breaths, I like to add a visual component, like numbers turning over on a clock.
What I tried is: when counting numbers; I would focus on a body part. For example: Breath one, focus on feet. Breath two, focus on forelegs, etc.
I kinda found that it helped me get farther in my WILDs, but I lost consciousness in the middle of it; because my mind was wandering too much.
It can be tricky to find something that works for you. Everybody is a bit different. I don't like to focus on my body when I'm trying to WILD, because it keeps me tied to my physical body. I normally have to ignore my body to the point where I forget all about it. Here are a few things you can try:
Imagine yourself walking down a long flight of stairs, or spiral stairs. Count every step as you feel your foot hit it.
Imagine climbing an infinite ladder that extends upward from your body in bed, count every rung as you climb.
Count your breath on every exhale. Each time you exhale and count, blink your eyes open and then shut again (reverse blinking).
Thanks for the ideas. I may try the infinite ladder; because i think it will give me a better mindset about leaving my body. :)
Edit: I layed down and tried it out just to see how it would feel, and I noticed something. While focusing on myself climbing up the ladder in my mind's eye, my eyes slightly focus and move from side to side in very small movements. Like you probably couldn't tell that I was doing it in my sleep, I can just feel it. And I know that even if you move your eyes, it slightly hinders you WILD a bit.
So any tips on that?
Oh, also should I be able to "see" my whole body climbing up the ladder, or just "see" my head, shoulders, and arms?
I actually did this last night to put myself in trance to make auto-suggestion more effective for MILDing and it worked really well, better than any other technique for relaxation I've tried. So I'm definitely gonna check this out for WILDing tonight. :D How many of your LDs come from WILDs?
Which tech did you try from those few, Ctharlhie?
Well I first took a few very deep breaths, in through the nose and out of the mouth, making myself feel like I was sinking into bed with each exhale. Next I just took slow deep breaths in and out of my nose, visualising that I was breathing in blue light/energy (relaxation) and breathing out black light (tension), After awhile I started a visualisation of descending stairs as Robot Vutler described. :)
That is so creative :)
I might try something similar to that in my WILD tonight.
Well I can't claim to have created it, I just stitched little bits of techniques that I've picked up here and there :')
Nice! I hope that it'll get you many successes :)
I am a noob and cannot hold conscious during sleep paralysis. Who knows a great technique?
By the way, free fall by jeff777 doesn't work for me.
