how to use an external visual stimulus for WILDing
Try lying down on your back, position your arm in about a 45°-50° angle and put your hand either on your hip or by your hip allow it to make a relaxed fist. Next, position your head so that your cheek is able to rest gently on your shoulder. Your head should be pointing in the direction of your elbow. Make yourself comfortable by shifting some weight onto your leg and your torso (if your head is resting on your left shoulder move your left leg in a diagonal direction... if your head is resting on your right shoulder, then shift some weight onto your right leg). Now stare at that relaxed fist of yours (the eye closest to your shoulder should be partially blinded by your shirt - not fully blinded), now look just above your fist. What do you see? You should be seeing a "ghost fist". now just stare at the ghost fist but look past it. the ghost fist should become blurry as well. Now one of your two eyes are focusing and voila there you have it. At times you might lose focus of your ghost fist, if this happens try your best not to look back and refocus on your hand, you will soon see the ghost hand again. Now try this with the shoulder you are resting on - try to look through it with the eye that is partially blinded. After a short while of staring, the eye that is not covered will stop focusing Now, neither of your eyes are focusing.
EDIT: When trying to look through your ghost shoulder your one eye will drift around -- allow it to -- don't allow it to jump back to a preferred position repetitively (once in a while is okay), if you do it repetitively, you won't fall asleep. if it jumps back a few times within a minute you're still okay.
After some time you should have either a very vivid false awakening or a lucid dream.
When in bed, you will most probably be covered in blankets, so just look at but don't focus on a nearby crease in the blanket.
