Is this normal?
I was lieing in bed for at least 1 hour, and I started feeling a really odd tingling sensation. As if I was shivering from cold. Even though I knew I wasn't. It happened every 5 seconds and it swept over my whole body. This happened for another hour as I tried to fall asleep and was extremely distracting. It didn't happen to me on my other attempts.
WTH was that?! Thanks in advance! :D

Most likely Sleep Paralysis and yes it's completely normal. Happens every night, only you're not conscious then. Can take form in many different ways, but tingling and weird sensations are the most common.

Well, how long does SP usually take? I was waiting for quite a while. :\

Like a few states of mind as you fall asleep, this is also just a brief state to let your brain make sure you are not acting out your dreams in real life.
You may also notice some geometrical shapes and Short duration random images after this state, hold on until some 3d dream scenes appear before you.
And allow yourself to be pulled into the dream scene.

Well I've gotten to the part where I experienced the HI but when I noticed that they were there, they would just disappear. Any tips?

It sounds more like a simple cold chill than anything related to sleep paralysis. You say it happened every five seconds for a full hour? I've never heard a case of SP starting and stopping that rapidly. If it was SP that means you spent an hour lying in an actual dream state and not realizing it. Sounds unlikely.
When you reach SP you should find yourself in a dream between 5 and 15 seconds judging by my experiences. It's a quick experience. If you feel you are in it for any longer than that then either the SP has released and you're still awake or you are actually in a dream and haven't realized it.
Sleep Paralysis is an experience unlike any other in waking life, unless you've used hallucogenic drugs. It's a real trip. If you have any doubts about whether or not you experienced it then you haven't.

Actually dms, I think what he means is that he was lying in bed for a full hour when it first started.

Lying in bed waiting for SP to begin is rarely a successful way to WILD. You're lying there, waiting and waiting for SP, trying not to fall asleep because you'll miss it, and every sensation gets your immediate attention and is analyzed to see, "is this SP? Is this HI?" What you should do is the opposite. You have to fall asleep, first and foremost. You have to stay aware, sort of in the back of your mind. But try to separate your mind from your body. When I'm falling back asleep I'll get into a comfortable position, and after a while my limbs get a little numb and heavy. It's not SP, but my body is deeply relaxed. The more relaxed you are the less you'll feel your body. (Also, I find, the fewer random itches and uncomfortable feelings I get.) Just get into a comfortable position and let your body fall asleep, while tinkering with levels of awareness that allow you to slip into the dream. You want to fall asleep, but you don't want to fall unconscious. Good luck. :)
