Small question about WILD

Last night I had a successful WILD (I'm starting to get used to the passive awareness ordeal that has been a pain for me in almost every dream I've made on my DJ) , and I could've easily done a DEILD when the dream started to fade, but I was worried that I wouldn't remember the lucid before.

I woke up, but my eyes were closed, and I was speculating on whether or not I should go back into the dream state from this potential DEILD, but I decided to open my eyes to record the lucid in detail.

I basically tried to do another WBTB+WILD after the successful WBTB+WILD before it.

My question is, after one goes into a WILD, but decides to do another WBTB after the dream fades, does it get progressively harder to go into dream state?

Because from what I know, earlier REM stages occur around after 3.5 hours (which is why I hear a lot of experienced lucid dreamers say they sleep for 4-5 hours or more).

And I know I still could experience more REM because the lucid was somewhat short, but vivid. I woke up maybe an hour from when I successfully had the lucid. (So I definitely had more potential to experience more REM, and I did feel a little bit energized after the dream, but could still fall asleep since it was still dark outside)

And I know the ideal time to do a WBTB for me is around 20 minutes, so I have no problems with the awareness from the first time I do it. When the dream starts to fade a way, is it better for me to risk losing some recall doing a DEILD?

Or should I do a shorter WBTB if I'm worried about slight dream recall loss from the DEILD? Because I usually fail after doing another WBTB, but I end up having vivid non-lucid dreams

(I have an okay dream recall, so I don't think keeping up with my DJ is a problem since I try to discipline myself in managing it, I try my best to remember my dreams daily ever since I came on this forum).

Edit: Also, for the first WBTB+WILD I did, I slept around 4 hours, so I didn't try to attempt doing a WILD before sleeping through those hours.

Edit: I'll probably try to take a nap after 3-4 hours have passed since I've heard that REM cycles usually occur during that time range.

The more hours you sleep for the longer and closer together your REM periods get, so it will actually (physiologically) get easier to WILD from each WBTB.

It's mental fatigue you have to watch out for, the strain of consecutive WILD attempts, and you better be able to have a lie-in in the morning.

For me recall loss through DEILD varies, usually just one DEILD yields perfectly clear recall for both dreams but that's if I wake up straight after and write them down, I haven't managed to chain 3 dreams through DEILD before.

Thank you so much for your reply, Ctharlhie, I was afraid of DEILD chaining diluting my recall, but now I'm more motivated to do a DEILD after a WILD attempt.

And yes, I think it's the mental fatigue that bothers me when I go for another WBTB+WILD combo (because I feel so energized, and I feel content with the lucid I've had, but I just love to have more haha). I know I can easily close my eyes when exiting a dream, so I guess I'll try to do WBTB+WILD combined with DEILDing after the dream fades once to take full advantage of REM usage.

This reminds me that last night I 'died' in a lucid and completely lost my vision, rather than wait to wake partially and DEILD I immediately started visualising a familiar scene and regained visuals. Trying to recreate a scene before you even wake may yield even better recall than DEILD chains, but I think it would take practice to use reliably.

I believe that Nina lucid dreams by waking naturally in the middle of the night and chaining WILDs until morning.

I am more concerned with spending more hours in LD than I am about recall. Working on recall is important for initially getting to be able to LD. If you are already there, enjoy the hell out of it, even if recall will suffer. DEILD from a lucid is much easier than from a non-lucid. I can usually even go through 5 cycle on my snooze alarm DEILDing each time after hitting the button. Don't miss that awesome chance for more time in LD.
I also find that the longer I have slept the better, unless I get to the 10 hour mark (then I just can't make myself keep sleeping.) You asked if it gets progressively harder to get into the dream state with WBTB. I feel that if I have a sucessful WILD my brain is primed for more LDing! I sometimes screw around with multiple LDs for literally hours, on the nights my brain is letting it happen. I try not to WBTB if I woke from an LD, then I always DEILD as to not miss the window in which my brain is in REM. I only WBTB if I was not lucid at waking, or if something forced me to really wake fully after an LD.

I guess I'm underestimating my recall lately, I have a decent dream recall, even if I don't remember much of the event (because usually images in my head of one event links to another, which augments my recall anyway). I need to enjoy the lucid experience more than the recall, since I usually remember most of my lucids anyway because I feel this positive energy in me knowing that I've escaped the waking life world just enough to experience the taste of freedom and other emotions.

I guess I was concerned because I am currently using lucidity to have shared dreams with a friend of mine, since there was one lucid I had the day before yesterday where I could've met her, it's only because I ran too fast for her to catch up, which is probably why I focused more on recall so I could compare her dreams with mine.

But I get what you're saying now, I'll try to be more geared towards enjoying the hours of LDing, and I'll keep practicing using images as mediums to link one event to the other, so that I can have hours of LDing and still sustain a long recall of it.

I hate that. Last night, Merck mentioned (on IRC) that he announced "Let there be light!" and it worked well for him.. I might give it a shot next time.

To overcome it I started flooding my self with sensory imagery, I visualised kneeling with bare shins on the road in my street, feeling each shard of tarmac poking into my shins.
I've read that imagining a feeling of 'linear acceleration' can power you into a new dream.

Erm no experience with wild yet so can't say! Though with the deild thing, I managed to chain 3 deilds together last week (was amazing) I woke straight from the third one and started writing, by the time i put pen to paper i'd forgotten about half of what had happened in the first lucid, i guess a quarter of the second, and the last one was in full memory. So I say just go with your instincts man, if the lucid werent that great or you didnt accomplish what you wanted, go for the deild!

Nice work though Link, I hope to have a wild soon once I start trying again.
