The WILD Yoyo (in my opinion, the best way to think of a WILD)
I was just thinking about WILD, and what was the best way to explain it to newbies in an easy to grasp way, I mean once they read the tutorials, what is the best way to look at it? WILD is the most elusive technique ever, and I think most people get it wrong. I had written much more than this originally (I was going to make a post about the nature of anchors, but it would have been so long), I just know how frustrating WILD can be. I don’t want anyone to beat themselves up when they can’t focus well, so I decided to give you another look at it. I want you to understand losing track of your anchor can be a completely natural experience well WILDing.
All WILD techniques use an anchor, or at least, most make the anchor clear to you. Something your conscious mind can cling to without relying back to what is going on around you, what you are trying to accomplish. Doesn’t matter what the anchor is, all that matters is you try to passively hold onto it for dear life, and associate it with lucid dreaming so when you return to it, you’ll know what you’re doing without having to turn on a ton of other mental functions and keep you awake. I know what my brain looks like on WILD, it’s like a yoyo, where my conscious represents the yoyo, and my hand is my anchor. The anchor serves a double purpose, not only does it serve as a place for my yoyo to return to when it’s lost, my tough grip around the yoyo with my anchor/hand (represented by my focus) keep this conscious yoyo from springing back to far and hitting my face (thinking about everything your trying to do, and over complicating the situation and waking yourself up).
The conscious yoyo is constantly spinning out into oblivion (some mental association trail), and coming back. As the yoyo spins out into space I lose track of my anchor, and my body. But every time it strays, I remember my hand exists, and I bring the focus (yoyo) back into my hand/anchor before it hits my face, as to not wake me up all the way. Eventually one of these moments the yoyo strays from my hand, it will come back to my dream hand, which picks up the yoyo where my real hand left off (with the same anchor). It’s almost like the waking mind just handed the dream mind your conscious. The reason the yoyo changed hands was because SP happened well the yoyo was away, and when the yoyo (conscious) came back, it had no hand to fall into, so it made one (the dream hand) to fill in for the lack of an expected experience. If you can hold onto the yoyo the whole time, that is when you enter SP vividly because it was a first hand experience. In order to do that you’re going to have to focus hard on not moving at all, and also focus on not getting frustrated when it does move away, because that will distract you from your anchor/hand (causing you to losen that grip (focus) on the anchor, which will in turn cause your yoyo to spring back up turning on all your mental processes which will wake you up. Normally well your awake, your conscious yoyo is constantly springing up hitting your face, keeping you alive and aware. In fact if you can think of holding the yoyo in your mouth, and catching it on the way up with your hand/anchor before it hits you in the face as it travels through your thought processes, that’s the best way to think of it :P.
