Question about sleep paralysis.

I know everyone who attempts WILD seems to ask similar questions, but I wanted to ask my specific one.

So I have been trying to WILD for the last week or so (I did have a short random DILD just from thinking about LDing so much though), but I have always found the WILD technique more intriguing. I have never sucessfully WILDed, and have only had about 2 short lived DILDs.

I have been waking up after about 4 - 5 hours of sleep. I then relax a little, generally just by sitting up with my eyes shut and thinking about lucid dreaming for a few minutes.

Then I lay down again and try using Yoshi's WILD technique.

When I try to get into sleep paralysis, I lay still, and wait. I always get a little numb and I get the urge to move, itches etc and ignore them. But thats it. Nothing else happens. I tried the count your breaths thing to keep focused, and I got to 300! with nothing happening.

What am I doing wrong? Why does nothing happen. I think I am probably not relaxed enough.

Basically:

1. Nothing happens, what am I meant to do to reach true sleep paralysis
2. Can you reach sleep paralysis before any sleep as easily (I know it is harder to WILD, but what about just reaching sleep paralysis, as sort of practice)
3. Should I try getting more sleep first (6 hours or so?)
4. What is it when I get numb. Is it SP beginning? Or what?

Also, I turn over after 7-10 minutes as suggested in Yoshi's technique, but when I do, I feel like I lost all progress I had done. I loose the numbness etc and it feels like I just got into bed. Is this normal?

Sorry this turned into a longer post than I intended.

Make sure your timing is right. Identify a time when you normally dream, then aim to be relaxed and mid-WILD as you hit that time frame. You can adjust your wake up time, or the length of your WBTB. Just make sure you are falling back to sleep as you are entering a REM cycle. You also want to practice relaxation techniques. You need to be insanely relaxed. You are so relaxed, you can barely keep yourself from falling asleep. You can definitely practice this as you fall asleep at night, even though it won't work as planned. Just don't get frustrated when it doesn't work.

There are lots of little things that have to go right for a WILD to be successful. It can be maddening, and feel out of your control. Keep being patient, and eventually it will all come together.

Yes, I've been attempting WILDs for a while now. I'm staying patient, but I unfortunately have yet to reach a fully lucid dream. I can tell you that I've reached sleep paralysis without losing conciousness, though, and I was able to reach the illusionary stage. In fact, I was very close. However, my dog pulled me out of it.

I'm sure your dog thought he was doing the right thing :)

I'm kind of jealous of you for one reason. I can WILD somewhat easily and do so fairly often but I've never once had visible illusions while WILD. Since they are possible to control I always though they would be interesting. At most I get auditory illusions and some slight tingling but that's it.

Ive never used other people's methods for WILDing, but i think i can help you.

If rolling over doesnt work for you, i would just stop doing it.

When you begin to feel numbness, its probably your body becoming very relaxed, which is good.

From there, focus on the numbness in your hands and feet and try to calm your self as much as possible.

For me, SP just starts out of nowhere. I think its because my mind is focused and my body falls asleep. I never need to count breaths or anything. I hope that helps!!

Sleep paralysis can sometimes be quite confusing to how people interprete it. I believe the SP that Yoshi mentions is when you begin you start becoming numb and heavy but you don't see the hynotic images, so being in SP means you basically can't move. After I reach SP, I then start to keep an eye out for any HI and later I usually see this one really vivid HI which is a sign that I'm really close to the transistion to dream state. Then after that I experience auditory hallucinations, more vivid HI and tingling, which is what I experience in the deep stages of SP. Hope this helps
