Troubles relating to the method in which you half sleep (WILD)

So Ive had some lucid dreams before by the DILD method, but I researched the WILD method and it fascinated me. Ive been trying it for a few weeks and I cant seem to reach that happy place between waking and sleep. I wake myself up at 4 a.m. but I'm never successful. if i try to stay awake, my mind is too busy for my body to go through sleep paralysis, etc. But if I force my mind to calm down just slightly, I fall asleep. Its just a constant uncomfortable half sleep position that lasts an hour or so until I finally give up and fall asleep. Any help?

I think you might be trying too hard. You don't FORCE your mind to calm down. You just let it happen without really thinking about it. I know, the ambiguousness can be frusturtating, but try this. While your laying there with you eye closed, try to "look" at the colors and shapes that form on the inside of your eyelids. just breathe slowly and let yourself be hypnotized by what you see. The idea is to trick your body into falling asleep while your mind is still awake. Eventually these colors and shapes you see on the inside of your eyelids might form together into a scene which you just "walk" into. I've had far more DILDs than successful WILDs, but when it happens it's quite remarkable.

Thank you, that is a good point. My main problem is, is I get sort of relaxed, then I think about what I am trying to do. "am I close?" I think. then i have to start all over. I just don't understand how I can accomplish something without reminding yourself what your supposed to be doing?

Moved to Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams (WILD)


My most recent WILD occured when my neighbor had contractors over to work on his house and they started early in the morning. Their conversations woke me up enough to become aware but I was able to avoid that moment where all you can do is stay awake. I kept myself comfy and relaxed and their words began to be visible to me as floating objects which carried into my dream and full lucidity.

WILD seems to be best achieved with awareness that occurs when you're still quite sleepy.

My cat likes to jump on my bed early in the morning. I will pet her a few times and then allow myself to stay relaxed, though I am awake and aware. As I've never left my bed or pillow it's easy to get back into the sleepy feeling and carry awareness over into a dream.

One thing I guarantee is that if you worry about whether or not you will slp into a dream or lucidity it's not going to happen. It's best not thought about at all but at the very least keep a positive attitude about it at all times. Worry will pervade your thoughts and pop up when you least want it to.
