Attempting to WILD.
Hey guys.
So, a bit of background, I've been interested in Lucidity for probably two and a half years now. In the past I've had a few successful DILDs, but never a WILD.
I decided to try a WILD last night when i went to bed, but achieved nothing. Upon waking up this morning i decided to try again. So i got comfortable and got to it. after about fifteen minutes of stillness, allowing my mind to do its own thing and drift through different thoughts, i noticed a tingly numbness through my whole body which quickly escalated and realised it might be starting to work. I'd started noticing some very illogical thought patterns and allowed myself to continue 'freefalling', but still aware that i was trying to WILD.
But, once i got to this point i guess i started to get excited. My heart started to go faster and the tingling started to fade. I got really disappointed, but I'm still happy that i may have gotten close.
So, my question is, how close did I get? Feel free to ask questions about myself/previous experience.

A similar experience happened to me. I was so close, but I wasn't totally prepared and scared myself awake. I was encouraged by others to keep going, and told that more opportunities will come. I'm going to keep working on it, I'll let you know if I have any success.

Not very close. Racing heart is not something that happens when you're falling asleep. However, it does happen when you're strongly anticipating something.

If you do reach the Theta brainwave state and start seeing hypnagogic images I would suggest attempting a simple visualization to put yourself into a dream.

Cmind - it would have been because i was anticipating the possibility of being close to my goal i suppose. I've read in a lot of places that a feeling of vibration is something common to the hypnagogic state, and that's essentially what i felt, so i suppose that just got me excited.
I'm confused though - once you get to that sort of stage, how do you transition yourself into a dream? I've been reading lots of the guides on this website - they're all really good, but i'm just having trouble understanding that part.
Edit - reading the guide in your signature now, Cmind.

One of the biggest issues with WILD is that people forget they need to fall asleep. Your efforts should be towards sleeping more than anything.
WILD also rarely works when you first go to bed at night. That is usually a wasted effort.
Being sleepy during your WILD attempt will aid you tenfold. If you have a sleepy period which typically occurs during the day (perhaps early afternoon) that would be a good time to try WILD. Or, lacking that, try skipping a couple hours of sleep on a day you can afford to, like a weekend (say Friday night). The attempt can then be made Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning during normal periods of REM. Your chances of achieving the WILD will be higher.
The goal isn't all those nifty sensations of HI or HH....the goal is a dream (with awareness) which occurs while you are asleep.
Best of luck! :)

Well I'll keep working on it, tonight I'll set an alarm for a few hours after i go to sleep and try then. I'll let you know my results.
