*This is not a complete guide for WILD. It deals only with small part of WILDing process. For a comprehensive WILD guide, check out WILD (Sageous).*

SENSATIONS AND HALLUCINATIONS

When you are attempting a Wake Initiated Lucid Dream (WILD), you can experience certain sensations and hypnogogic hallucinations (HH). They may seem very real, but they are just made up by your mind. They are not real and they can not hurt you in any way. Purpose of this guide is not to scare you, but to let you know, that these exist, so you are not taken by surprise and you can wait it out and enter a lucid dream when they are over.

Sensations and hallucinations:

1. Your body getting heavy, relaxed, or weightless/floating
2. Movement - as if you were on a waterbed, as if your bed or body was turning in either direction
3. Falling/sinking
4. Acceleration - as if you were flying head first at great speed
5. Vibrations
6. Body distortions
7. You may hear different sounds

You may not experience all of these, or any of these, or not the same ones at every attempt, or different intensity or length each time.

So if you don't experience any of them, that doesn't mean, that you are doing anything wrong.

On the other hand, if you do, don't get scared. Keep your cool, go with it, don't try to control it (at least until you are more experienced).

All of what's happening is normal. It happens to all of us every time we sleep. Only we don't notice it, because if you not WILDing, by this time you are asleep.

It's important not to pay too much attention to them. Just be a passive observer.

TYPES OF ENTRY INTO LUCID DREAM
These are some of the different ways to enter a lucid dream. You normally don't have a choice in which one will happen.

1. Dream images
First type of entry involves looking at the back of your closed eyelids. At first, you will see black and grey fog swirling around. Maybe you see some colors. Then you start seeing simple objects and geometric shapes. These will evolve into more complex pictures and dreams. You may see movie like scenes. When these scenes change into one big movie screen covering your whole field of vision, the dream is ready for you. But so far you are just an outside observer.

You may either wait for it to envelop you and you suddenly find yourself inside of a dream, or you may look at the dream scene, pick a spot on the ground and say slowly and deliberately something like "I am there". This should transport you inside a dream.

2. Floating or seeing your room
This is entry with help of one of the sensations mentioned above. If you feel like you are floating above your bed, or you see your room with your eyes closed, your dream body has separated. All you need to do is stand up or roll out of the bed.

This may not work on your first try. But more you think about it, you will start noticing when this happens and believe it or not, you will remember this article and you will give it a try and stand up, although you will be 100% sure, you are awake.

So if you see your room, try a motionless RC - "If I was in a dream, I could levitate" and watch yourself lift up in the air. If this happens, you are in a dream. Stand up or roll out and go have fun.

Sometimes instead of your room you see darkness. Do the same RC to find out if you are in a dream.

3. Acceleration/falling/sinking
These are also some of the sensations described above.

Acceleration - feels as if you were flying at incredible speed, head first. Sometimes you even feel, as if you were touching some kind of a rough surface with stones and pebbles, so it can be really bumpy. Doesn't hurt at all, it's actually more fun than Disneyland. After you stop, get out of the bed and do RC, or try a motionless RC first.

Falling/sinking - feels as if you were sinking through your mattress for a long time. RC when movement stops.

4. Vibrations
You feel your body parts or whole body vibrating, something like when you put your hand on purring cat (mild), or chainsaw (strong). RC when it stops.

You can have more than one wave of vibrations. So after first ones are over, you may want to wait a few minutes to see if you get more of them.

After the last two transition types, you may not see anything. It's possible, that your dream eyes are still closed. Go ahead and pry them open with your dream hands. Or, perhaps you are wearing dark glasses, or your hood is covering your eyes. Simply remove them with your dream hands.

In most of my WILDs, I get tunnel vision which grows bigger and bigger until my whole vision is the dream scene, and I enter it by imagining myself in it, or literally "walk into it" like going inside a tv.

What I usually experience when entering dreams through WILD is ear splitting noise like the dream is emitting feedback from a microphone. I am unable to fully immerse into dream the as if the is rejecting me. The farthest I got was a second or two in before getting ejected from the dream.

When i was trying to WILD, i had vibrations or tingling on my arms and legs. I also sometimes felt like my arm was moving around or my feet were moving. And I somewhat felt like i was being pulled upwards. I don't understand why i was feeling this though, because i hadn't even gotten that into it yet. My hypnogogic imagery was still mostly foggy and unfocused (but they were brightly colored). I didn't even have a dream scene and i could still move my real body parts.

Is this ok?

Vibrations are good. They mean, that you have stayed aware past the point, when normally your mind is already asleep.

As far as I can tell, the vibrational stage is when you can either enter a lucid dream by waiting for dreams to form, or you can get a OBE by floating out.

When you say your arms and legs were moving - do you mean like twitching? Or more like just moving. If moving, you can be feeling your phantom/astral body part already separating from your sleeping body. And you being pulled upwards is the same thing. At this moment you can think to yourself "Now I'm out of body", or I just think "up" as if mentally directing my astral body where to go. Once you feel only your astral body, you can stand up next to your bed and move away from your bed, so you don't get sucked in. And you are free to explore.

This separation of our subtle body happens every night, when by raising vibrations, it get's out of phase with our body to get energized by energy from earth.

If this fails and you don't separate, you can wait for vibrations to stop and do a RC to see, if you are already in LD. If not, you can wait for images to form into more complex pictures and dreams, which you can then enter. Good luck:alien:

I wish I had such obvious sensations like vibrations. Most of the time I see some short HI and then quickly fall asleep. I don't really know how to start practicing WILD.

Pay attention, it's quite likely that next time you will feel vibrations. It's easy to feel them, when you wake up at night to go to the restroom and when you return to bed, try saying your mantra for a few minutes. You may feel them then.

From the beginning, my most common entry was through images, but lately I enter after vibrations. But images is my favorite method of entry. Once you start seeing HI, keep observing them, but just passively. Don't get excited, just acknowledge that they are there. Repeating simple mantra, for example "I'm dreaming" helps you to stay aware and not fall asleep too soon.

Once the images evolve into more complex images and those into dream scenes - pick a spot in the dream and slowly and deliberately think "I......am......there". This should transport you inside of the dream. This type of entry - when you enter the dream - is for me easier, than waiting for the dream to envelop you. Just because that point is easy to miss and you don't have much of the indication as to when that happens.

I woke up in the middle of the night and decided to try to WILD. After a failed first attempt (Forgot why) I tried again. After like 30 seconds, I felt like my whole body was numb, but had that tingly feeling(like when a foot falls asleep). I then felt like my body was curling up. Was I close?

Every sensation that you get when WILDing tells you, that you went past your normal "falling asleep" point. Your mind is still aware, while your body is shutting down. Those are the hallucinations you experience.
And yes, curling up, or being twisted or destorted by unknown power is one of the sensations you can get when you are close to falling asleep = lucid dream. What happend afterwords? Did you fell asleep? If yes, a simple mantra like "I'm dreaming" should entertain your brain sufficiently, so you don't fall asleep too soon. Happy dreams:alien:

While it was happening I was just thinking of a random scenario, but as soon as I realized it was happening, I focused to much on it or something, and it stopped. I did an RC and wasn't dreaming, sadly.

It's best to be just a passive observer. Don't push anything. Try not to think "oh yeah, it's happening", or something that gets you excited.

But even after it stops, not all is lost. Keep doing what you were doing and it's possible that in few minutes you will be back with vibrations or visuals.

I tried WILD again today. It didn't work the same as last time (I know it shouldn't, but it was way different) I was wondering if not getting out of bed was the cause of this?

Not getting out of bed may cause you to fall asleep too soon, because you just didn't wake yourself up enough. Is that what happened? Describe.

It was more of a "no sensations" type thing. Yesterday I actually got out of bed and had amazing results.

Learning to WILD is a trial and error type of thing. But as long as you manage to keep yourself awake for long enough, even if you don't have any sensations, you just suddenly realize that you can see your room or blackness, when you know your eyes are closed. Lately, all I feel is very very mild vibrations, and then I just see my room.

Sometimes I tell myself "when I see my room, I get up".

Tonight I'll try getting up and seeing if I get the sensations, then compare. Thanks again for the help!

I don't often notice the geometric shapes and what not in my hallucinations, but I do see flashes that eventually form a dream scene. The dream scene is more of a "day" dream scene, however I could try this anyways! Thanks! :D

By moving my arms and legs I mean my astral or dream body, but it's mostly my arms. When these feelings happens, i feel like they happen way to early in the process for me to be able to separate already, and I also think that if I try to move or do a reality check i will just ruin everything. And I'm a little worried (and excited) to astral project, because that might end up happening instead of lucid dreaming.

But i still will try to do a reality check, move my astral body, and wait for the vibrations to start

Not sure you need to RC when you separate by floating out. That would be OBE. But I'm not sure, give it a try. Do a motionless RC - try to levitate.

I don't think you can exit before your body is ready. I mean exit happens only at the right time, you can't make it sooner than the right time. Each time I had an OBE (3 times) it happened during WILDing, or immediatelly after I gave up on the attempt, turned to the other side and went to sleep. It happened out of the blue, I wasn't trying to make it happen.

I would suggest you find some websites, like obe4you.com - free videos on how to exit and free ebook. You could also search how to protect yourself before OBE. Also karen659 thread in Beyond dreaming. She has huge experience. Good luck:alien:

Well, I just woke up and here's the compared results. When I didn't get out of bed, I had little to no sensations. The first time I got out of bed, I walked to the bathroom then downstairs. Had the best sensations I've ever had. The second time I got out of bed I just went to the bathroom. I had okay sensations. Started numb, then went tingly, but it was only in my legs and arms. It wasn't throughout my body. Tonight I'll to recreate the first attempt at getting up to see if I get the major sensations.

I have to emphasise, that sensations are not the goal. When you WILD, your goal is to let your body fall asleep while your mind stays awake, but only to the point, when a dream has formed. Then you need to fall asleep while keeping your lucidity.

It's possible not to feel any sensations and have a successfull WILD. You should not wait for them or pay too much attention to them. Each time you wait for sensations and they don't come, you lose your chance for a lucid dream, because you are focusing on the wrong thing. Wheather you get sensations or not, continue with your attempt.

You should basically just try and go to sleep after some hours of sleep, and let your body fall asleep while you keep your mind awake by mantras. Everybody interested in WILD, please read this WILD (sageous) tutorial.

Last night I had a moderately successful DEILD. I had a dream that ended and I attempted to enter it again.. I did.. for a few seconds. I had an auditory hallucination (which I rarely have) that was my dad saying "It'll have to wait." He's over a thousand miles away, so naturally, I RCed. My finger did go through my hand but I woke up. :(

I tried to re-enter a different dream and felt pretty light, so I did a non-moving RC. Same thing! My body lifted up and I floated into a dream. WOKE UP. :(

Good progress, I suppose, but it's still a bit irritating! THAT close. :P Better luck next time. ^_^

DEILD is awesome. Good job on recognizing when to do RC and on decision to do floating RC and it worked! Did you try to get into another DEILD after you woke up?

I know that it's not based on sensations, but, for me, it helps to have some. It's like setting a milestone. I have them, so I know it's working to an extent. Also, I'm not great at visualization. Does this matter?

I understand, just don't want to mislead people:alien: They do help me too. But everybody should also learn to notice the moment of transition into a dream, even without any sensations. Just by staying aware and maybe telling yourself to notice when you see your room, or keep trying motionless RCs (such as levitation).

Visualizing sounds pretty complicated, until you realize, that all you need to do is think of any of your dreams from the past, or think of something you like to fantasize about. No need to create elaborate dreamscapes. You don't need to acctually see it, just think about it. This will simple help to 'turn on' the dreaming center (made up term).

The whole falling asleep process should go something like this:
1. get yourself sleepy enough before you start saying your mantra (if you fall asleep easily, start with mantra right away)
2. daydream or recall some recent dream you remember
3. dose off, or catch yourself just before
4. wake up and continue with mantras and maybe levitation RC
5. dose off - this time hopefully lucidly

Seems a lot of people make this mistake. While conjuring scenes in your mind's eye is a good tool to get started, when you're actually succeeding at a WILD it isn't in your mind's eye, you actually see it as if it was projected on the back of your eyelids. It's quite fascinating.

Had another WILD attempt yesterday. I succeeded! I think. I held still, and got a numb feeling. It felt like it was taking forever, so I just rolled over and tried again. I fell asleep, but when the dream started I was instantly lucid. It was the most realistic dream I've ever had. Instead of asking, "Am I dreaming?" I asked,"Am I awake?" It was that real.

Could have been a DILD. Depends, for how long did you sleep before dream started. I think you have just a few seconds, less than 5 perhaps, to fall asleep, start a LD and still call it a WILD. But that's just a technicality. You had LD and that's what counts. Congrats!

Okay, so I decided to try to WILD with somewhat success this morning. This is the chronological breakdown of what happened.

1. Went to bed at 12AM and set my alarm for 6 (giving me time to fall sleep and still stay in the range of the REM sleep).
2. Body woke me up at 5:52 (oh the irony), so I got up and used the bathroom. I then fell back asleep.
3. Woke up at 7:03, still feeling tired so I knew that the alarm wasn't a complete waste. So I decided to try to WILD.
4. Laid on my back, completely still, and started to left my drift while staying aware.

The next stage lasted about 30 minutes, but I don't have any benchmarks because my eyes were closed up until the end. <=)
1. I was just laying there counting and stuff when the first wave? if you call washed over my body. It almost felt like a tingling sensation.
2. I kept on counting when I started to feel myself drift. I let the drift continue, but kept myself awake. This is when a stronger pulse/wave went through my body. This pulse made my body go numb slightly. It also brought what I am assuming is HI as the black in my eyes turned white and made weird, swirly patterns.
3. After counting and doing a thought exercise(making a red ball bounce up and down in front of a white background), a third pulse, the strongest one, washed over me. This pulse carried vibrations so I knew I was getting close.
4. Now I felt a sort of shift within my mind. I can't explain it, but when I feel this shift, it's pretty much the last stage before I get to the dream stage. I "pulled it out" and then that's when things got crazy. The vibrations got strong, I felt paralysis along my body (but not SP-this feeling was different), and I could open my eyes to see my room has taken on a purple hue.
5. Instead of waiting for the feeling to go away (didn't know I wasn't supposed to do that), I decided to try get up from underneath my covers. I managed to raise my arms and move my feet a little (note: it felt like my cover didn't exist-my arms were moving through the air with no resistance) and I tried to move my torso/head, but unfortunately that part of my body retained the paralysis.
6. I eventually managed to get back up, but I somehow woke back up when trying to. I did multiple RC's just in case I was having a false awakening, but I really was awake. Checked the time, saw it was 7:30.

30 minutes and I was literally on the edge of having a full blown WILD. ;( I went to this thread, and my sensations matched the vibrations, and images behind your eyes.

First time in a month that I have been successful in inducing a WILD with just my willpower.

I used to get the "lights on" behind my closed eyelids, as if someone put the lights on behind a plexi-glass. It's a good sign, but I don't get it anymore. The swirly patterns are a beginning of HH (HI). They will later evolve into objects and those into scenes and movies. Once you see a movie covering up your whole field of view, that's the dream and you can either wait for it to envelop you (this has not worked for me) or you can enter it by wishing/seeing yourself on the ground in the scene.

Good for you, I can't make a ball bounce. If I may, I would suggest you try without interacting with the HH at least until you get some more WILDs. Just to see, how it goes this way. HH should be observed passively, but later you can try and change them.

I also get this shift just before I fall asleep. It's like my brain moves a few inches to the left, while being tickled. And there is come kind of a electrical hum associated with it. Silly, but that's the best I can describe it.
If you not paralyzed, it's not SP. Just being relaxed and body may feel heavy, as we observe it falling asleep. When you opened your eyes, I would bet, that those were already your dream eyes and you were already in WILD. When I notice that suddenly I see my room, it's in green hue. Like looking through a green bottle. Same, BTW, as when I had those two SPs.

So at this point, when you see your room, your dream/astral body is already separated and you can get up. Remember this post next time and tell yourself, that that's how it's done, people are not paralyzed at that point and if they can do it, so can you. Have confidence and get up.

If you already see your room, no need to wait. I did hear that sometimes when OBE, you get stuck on some part of your body. Never happend to me. Have a mantra or think about it a lot, that you will not get stuck, there is no reason why should you.
But you can also try to will yourself up. Instead of moving your body, just think "now! I'm out of body", or "to the window, door....". I just used to say "up"! Not wishing it, but knowing that you will do it.

So it was an excellent try. You did get a WILD or OBE, just didn't go to explore from there. No problem, next attempt will be better.

Sometimes it's very hard to realize the transition had already happen. That's when you have to do a leap of faith and try a motionless RC to see if you there. Happy dreams:alien:

PS: all sensations and HH described here are not exactly what someone else may experience. So please don't feel bad, if you don't get them, or not all of them, or you get something different. Each time is different for me too, so can't really rely on them as a milestone or some other indicator.

When I wake up and try to WILD, I tend to get this sudden urge to roll over. I fail every time because I feel a lot better just getting rid of that urge. I feel this is what is preventing me from having a successful WILD.

I used to expect the hallucinations, but after reading that I should just try sleeping, I made sure to ignore these hallucinations since, as gab said, they're not the goal.

When you get the urge to move, go for it. It's ok, it's also ok to swallow and scratch. It may set you back a few minutes. But if you do it slowly, without paying any attention to it, it will not ruin your attempt. Same way, when you just going to sleep normally. You don't even think or notice when you swallow or scratch or change position. Yet, you are able to fall asleep shortly after all that.

You should not wait for HH, or vibrations, or any other hallucinations, simply because you may not get them all, or they are different each time. If you wait for images, you may miss you chance when you not notice your vibrations. Or if you wait for vibrations and get images, or just darkness, or you suddenly see your room, you miss your chance again.

Best is to not expect anything specific. But if you know what can happen, when it happens, you are ready for it and you know what to do.
It's best not to pay too much attention to any bodily sensations, just observe them. The reason is, because you are trying to create a dream body and every thought of your real body can hamper that. But if you ignore them all together, you will lose out on a chance to enter a lucid dream.

LD doesn't always comes to you. Sometimes you have to make the extra step to actually walk in. And this is where these sensations/HH come in handy.

Most of my entries into WILD are when I have to enter it somehow. Either by walking into a dreamscape that I see as HH, or by rolling our or getting up from sofa when i feel vibrations or see my room through closed eyelids, or I see the blacknes.

Hey gab, i got a brief SP experience the other week, my first. I took in about a minute of the experience, then i fell asleep again. I remember seeing HH on my wall, and thinking, "Man, I hope i dont get the hag" haha. The sensations i felt were as if pulsating energy was expanding fairly explosively from the centre of myself, like the part where you feel heart ache, where my soul is, over and over again. It was yellow, and as it washed over me I felt yellow. Also, it was entering SP, because i saw HH on my wall and freaked a little then I went to hit my wall but my arm froze, then i was paralyzed.

Well, HH are a good sign, that you are "past your bedtime", haha. It means, that your mind is awake at the time, when normally is already asleep. So your mind gets to experience falling asleep sensations, that you normally don't notice.

Try to stay with HH or other sensations little longer, without paying too much attention to them. Then based on what you get, try to enter LD as described in the article. Good luck:alien:

Awesome guide. The vibrations example describes my WILDs perfectly. Actually it was this article which taught me to "open my dream eyes" once those vibrations started (or after a couple repetitions), because I didn't know what to do with the vibrations other than roll over and pass back out into a dreamless sleep.

What usually happens for me now in my WILDs is I'll get 2 or 3 waves of vibrations during right after a WBTB. The first one cues me in that "Ok it's about to happen." Then I wait for the second one (feels like it only takes a few seconds vs. minutes), and I consciously concentrate them behind my forehead, eyeballs and eyelids (I know Xanous does something similar, but he focuses his on the back of his skull instead of the front). Sometimes it doesn't kick in on the 2nd wave, so I wait for a 3rd (usually doesn't take more than 3), and I can feel it lock in. Like the wave hits a high intensity but doesn't come back down. THAT'S when I "open my dream eyes." The first thing I usually see at this point is my room, and I'm in my bed in the same position as when I woke up for the WBTB. So it's critical at this point that I go ahead and assume I'm in an LD already. Otherwise I'll get bit in the ass by an FA. I get out of bed slowly and usually find several things wrong which let me know the dream has started. Sometimes nothing looks wrong, but I know I'm lucid because I'm used to "that lucid feeling" after all these years of doing it. I've discovered that if I don't want my first scene to be my stupid room everytime, I can incubate a dream scene right at that high point of the vibration wave, and it works. But it's a timing thing, because all this occurs so fast for me, I gotta remember pretty quick. I've experienced dream images, floating and sinking before, but it's very rare. The vibrations accounts for more than 90% of my WILDs.

So there's Ophelia's WILD Way in a nutshell. :)

Another time, I'm repeating my mantra, thinking what to make for dinner, when I see my room. Thinking nothing of it, I was sure I'm still awake, since my mind was working on dinner menu and stuff. All I had was very mild vibrations. But I remembered people saying just to get up or roll out. So I got up, thinking this would look really stupid if someone was watching me, but I was in a dream.

So since then I'm attempting my "escapes" much sooner than I used to. If you try a motionless RC before you move, then you have nothing to lose by trying. (Think to yourself "If this was a dream, I would levitate". Or, if you have your vision, "If this was a dream, that something would be something else" - try to change any object you see.

Amen to that. When I first started out at DV a million years ago, I never read a single tutorial. I just had an explosion of lucidity from reading other members' experiences. That's what this forum is for, ain't it :happy:

No I never have, that I can recall. I get what you mean about the leap of faith though. Afraid to move because "Ahh, I might be moving my real body and I'll waste the chance asdf..." I go through the same thing when I take the chance at opening my eyes and hoping I'm in the LD already. Then again when I get out of bed and hope it's dream me that's doing it, and not real me. So far it hasn't led me wrong, but what the hey. I'll try the rolling thing before opening the fake eyes, and see what happens. Thanks gab

I even adapted a mantra "I see my room, I get up". Because by the time you see your room, you in a dream and of course, that's lala land, you don't suspect a thing, so this little remainder helps me out.

Great post, Gab. I get vibrations 99% of the time and it usually is a OBE style LD. Other times the dream just forms with no vibrations (ideal) other times is OBE like and no vibrations.

Anyway, I think maybe I rush things too much when I get vibrations. I always want to hurry off to do whatever. I think it explains a lot of my unstable/blind/whatever OBE LDs. So, I've been trying to remember to how I did the other 1% of my WILD/DEILD and hopefully push toward a more controlled entry. I never really cared before. I was just happy to be in a lucid and get some play time. But, now I'm really wanting to do some TOTYs and that requires a little more focus. :D

Tonight is a Galantamine night so I think I'll try taking it slow and visualize. Instead of jumping straight out of bed, I think I'll wait a little and try to control where I "wake" up to. I'm getting really tired of my house being a dream trap or running my neighborhood in my skibbs. :P

I know what you saying. I'm always in such a rush to jump out of first window, that I fail (forget) to stabilize.

Once I WILDed with this mantra: "Stabilize now!" "Awareness now!" , so as I got lucid, I was still saying it and it helped me to get one of my longer LDs, which was very nice for a change. Maybe this would help you. :alien:

Oh cool, I JUST had my first experiences with a mantra-type thing while transitioning in a WILD. I just kept thinking "focus focus focus." All it did was helped me focus the vibrations so I could transition into the LD better. I wonder what would happen if I integrated some stabilization words or better, "I am not blind, there's plenty of light"...

The reason I used "stabilize now" mantra is not to acctually stabilize, but to remind myself to do so. Otherwise, when I get lucid, I forget to stabilize. So as I get lucid, as I'm still saying "stabilize", those are first words that come out of my mouth and it helps me keep my connection to my intent.

I have used mantras for vision too. I think it's better to use only positive words - "I can see". Negative words are usually disregarded and all your higher self can hear is I am not blind.

One thing that worked best for me to gain my vision was this:
I put my hands in front of my face and focused on seeing them. As they slowly came out of the darkness, I could see that my surroundings were comming out of darkness as well, untill I could see pretty well.

Anytime. It's still kinda new for me, so I'm really paying attention to every little detail, sensation, any and everything I do along the way so I can pass it along to others.

So I almost had a successful WILD last night, and my first experience with SP. It kind of just happened on its own. I woke up around 4:00 and couldn't fall back asleep. I was just laying there for a while, and started feeling vibrations. I didn't think anything of it, and it really didn't even register in my mind that I should try to WILD or anything, which was probably good. Sleep paralysis ended up taking over, and when it did, I had some audio hallucinations. I heard "whoosh" sounds in intervals. They would sometimes get faster and sometimes quieter. I then started thinking about all of the bad hallucinations that people can get, and I started freaking out just a little bit, and intentionally broke the SP (which I now greatly regret). I am kind of thinking all I had to do was get out of my body and into my dream body, but I'm not sure. How can I tell exactly when I should exit into my dream body?

If it's anything like what I go through ber5897, then when the "whoosh" sound is at it's most intense, try getting up slowly out of bed. You're probably already in a dream at that point. Works for me anyway.

But if you're too deep in SP, then perhaps at the height of the "whoosh" sounds, imagine a dream scene unfolding before your eyes. I don't have really any experience with SP, so maybe you should wait to hear other replies hehe. But definitely don't be scared of the hallucinations. They're kinda cool, in their own creep way.

This is great stuff. The exact entry point is what's most confusing, so personal accounts are invaluable. Keep 'em coming, guys:alien:

About the SP - if you can't move your body. If you happen to get paralyzed, that's even better. There is no chance for you to accidentally move your sleeping body, so any experiments you do with moving, will be of your sleeping/astral body.

So if you paralyzed, try and move your arms or legs, without engaging muscles. You can try and reach for a nearby object, or even not so nearby. In dream world, laws of physics don't apply, so you may be able to stretch your arm to distance.

Visualization is also great. While most of the people find it hard to visualize at the beginning of sleep, you will find, that when in the "inbetween stage", images will start to jump into your field of view. You can try and imagine something that is very familiar to you and it may show up.

(Remember, don't wait for SP, or for any sensations, because you may not get it, or will get something else.)

If you in doubt, wheather you are dreaming or awake, do a motionless RC. Think to yourself "if this is a dream, I'm floating up" and imagine yourself doing so. It will not ruin your attempt, in case you are awake.

And hallucinations can get scary, but there is a very good chance that you will have nothing scary happening. It really helps to have happy attitude and thinking of some beautiful place while WILDing.

Thanks for the advice! As gab mentioned about the images jumping into your field of view, I think I did notice that somewhat happening.

Also, I didn't get any hallucinations besides that "whoosh" sound once I was in SP. At first I was completely comfortable with everything. I was just getting paranoid about all of it, hoping that I didn't get any scary hallucinations, even though I do know that it was unlikely. Plus I wasn't sure exactly what to expect since it has never happened before. And just like OpheliaBlue said, everything that I did experience was very cool :)

Very cool! I think, however, I will have to wait until I get some vibrations until I try any mantra. I usually have to drop the mantras after a while or I stay too awake.

I went to bed listening to some amazing binaural beats last night.
About 30 minutes in, I started experiencing these weird sensations that were listed.
I felt like I was on a roller-coaster, and there was a very strong vibration in my head.
My body was becoming numb and I was sinking into my bed.

I was absolutely terrified, so I woke myself up.
I'm going to try again tonight. No matter how scary the sensations get, I'll go along with 'em!

If you know it's gonna happen, it may not be so scary. I personally love them all dearly.

You may get these sensations before bed, but if you want to have a LD, you should do this after some hours of sleep with WBTB. There may not be any dreams ready for you yet at the beginning of sleep, since first sleep cycle starts with about 80 long NREM. We do dream in NREM, but these dreams are much less vivid, detailed and they are shorter than REM dreams.

Hi, new here. Have been interested in this for a while, but am terribly bad at dream recall (am going to start a journal). However, I naturally have been doing this for about 2-3 years now it's just habit, but it never turns into a lucid dream. It's really a part of my insomnia. I lay down every night and my mind seems to stay awake until my body is completely asleep. I start feeling all of those sensations except the auditory hallucinations and the body distortions. I feel like I'm falling endlessly, or I get waves on waves of vibrations, I feel like I'm floating, but I can NEVER get it to pass on through to a lucid dream. Until the other night, it finally did just on accident, and I was able to fly and was lucid.

What seems to always happen is, as my body is falling deeper and deeper into that state while I'm still awake, I can feel the vibrations and such. I'm not scared, it doesn't bother me, but for some reason my heart rate starts increasing and I reawaken inside my mind which triggers my body to fall out of the vibrations and snap back to my bed.

I wish I could get to the other side...

EDIT: I do get the loud buzzing sound in my ears as I can feel the hairs inside my ears laying down and the sound muffling.

Interesting to hear how different our experiences can be. All of my first WILDs used to be through entering/wishing myself inside the movie/dream. Other sensations/entries started later and it took me the longest time to figure out how to enter via vibrations, flying/falling, and seeing through my closed eyelids.

Now I know, that I can get up/roll out without waiting for any clues. I just get the feel that I'm in a dream and get up.

When I get the flying feeling, it's very organized, I just fly straight, head first. Sometimes as if being dragged over rough surface with pebbless at warp speed (for non-trekkies, that's very fast).

Writing dreams in dream journal will help with recall.

Sounds like you are trying to WILD before sleep. You see, the sensations are sign of falling asleep, so you may get those, but if dream is not ready for you yet, you have nothing to enter. On occasion, you may get a WILD with NON-REM dream. But REM dreams are preferred for their length and quality. That's why WILDing is recommended after some hours of sleep, with WBTB.

But you can always try and roll out or get out after these sensations stop. It may seem to you that you are still awake, but a transition into dream can be so smooth, that you will not even notice, and you are already in a dream, laying there and thinking that nothing happened and you failed again.

I used to wait for sensations to be over and then for something else to happen that would allow me to enter a dream. What I failed to realized is that I was already inside of a dream, all I had to do is to get up and walk away from sofa. That move made me realize I'm in a dream and changed the environment into 3D dream with me being inside of it.

Sometimes, on the verge of entering a dream, I do get increased heart rate. If you stay with it just for a bit longer and enter a dream, you will stop noticing it. It's normal, nothing to worry about. Try to ignore it. Happy dreams:alien:

I get pretty much the textbook intense vibrations - Across the whole body, along with the roaring sound of white noise fasing in and out really rapidly, and bright flashing lights in my vision. I even got the feeling that I was travelling very fast along a bumpy road.

But after that, everything stops and I'm just sat in bed, awake? I've done checks after all the times it's happened, and they weren't false awakenings. Any clues as to what I might be doing wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. It just sounds like your timing was a bit off. You see, you need do fall asleep pretty much at the same time when these sensations show up. Bucause it's totally possible to have them and still be wide awake.

It is a very delicate ballancing game, to be able to fall asleep not a minute sooner, nor later, than when you should. Actually, if you are able to stay in this state longer, than you have a chance to fall asleep and stil get lucid. But it's not easy to stay in this state long.

If this happens next, allow yourself to fall asleep. Since you have concentrated on LD and awareness, there is a good chance you will have a DILD, or you will be comming in and out of the sleep and each time you fall asleep, you have a chance for a WILD. Hope this helps.

I agree with Gab. Your timing is off for entering REM, you are falling asleep, and experiencing symptoms of being in NREM. The gap between starting WILD and reaching REM is too great if you WILD at the beginning of the night.

I would call this a victory honestly. You are right on the verge; essentially you are being cheated. Don't give up and soon you shall go all the way, and like Ctharlhie said, if you are doing this at the start of the night, then don't. When I started out I had no help, so there was no advice and I was attempting to WILD at the start of the night, day after day. I finally managed to get a 2 minute lucid dream for all my hard work. Not worth it. It WAS excellent practice however.

If you are getting the static sounds you are very close indeed.

I can't believe how I would have done this without the internet and this forum... I'd probably be terrified, actually. I've pretty much just combined all the information I could find on this forum!

I have no idea how I'm meant to fall asleep with all that going on, but I'll give it a shot. I reached that stage 3 times in the space of 18 hours... I think I'll just go ahead and take a break before I get a bad headache. Who knew falling asleep could be so tiring? The first time was at the start of the night, and was actually just trying to get some sleep and didn't pass out early enough... second time I freaked out and got up, 3rd time trying to aim for the afternoon REM but timing must have been off.

Whenever I feel my body falling asleep the excitement wakes me up; it's very frustrating. Not trying is a masterful skill.

I'm sure you will get used to that and not get too excited. Although I admit, it's not easy. Sometimes it feels involuntary. As if I couldn't help it, but to get excited. But then it's up to me to get it under control fast and calm down. It does get easier the more you try.

Well, you kind of start out with blackness behing closed eyelids. And you can also have it later in the attempt. So it depends on where in you attempt it happens.

if at any time you feel you are in a dream, you can try a few things.

1. Try and move your dream hands or your whole body. You can practice this during day, or as you going to sleep in the evening. Just imagine you moving your hands, without actually sending signals to your muscles to move.

2. Try to transport yourself inside the dream/blackness. I do this by thinking "I am there". But you feel free to find your own method.

3. Try a motionless RC. Think "if this is a dream, I'm levitating" and pretend you are lifting up in the air. You can also practice this during day.

Then, you can either enter the dreamscape that you see behind your closed eyelids (sometimes all you see is darkness, which also could be a dream). Or stand up/roll out of your body into the dream.

Not swallowing/Not moving is not what you should focus on during WILD, so yes, just don't worry about it and fall asleep like you normally do, but while keeping awareness using mental anchor. :)

About the entry - (to the lucid, so there is no confusion, lol)

I seem to go through cycles, when all, or most of the transitions are visual, or only physical. It is very strange and I have no idea why. So lets see if it does the same for you. I personally like the visual entries better, just because I see what I'm getting myself into. I have a confirmation, a clue, that dream is already there.

When i just vibrate, it's sometimes hard to tell if I'm dreaming yet or should wait longer to enter.

In the last couple of tries I've been felling that I'm sinking into my bed. I also feel like my mind just shifted a bit to the left side (don't really know how to explain it better).
When I'm sinking it won't go away. It goes on forever.
The one time I tried to move I just woke up. Usually when I feel I might be dreaming I try and move one finger. It does move and I assume I'm not dreaming yet.
Also I usually feel very strong vibrations. I wake up from them not because I'm giving them to much attention but because they're really violent... The timing does seem right because when they wake me up I realize that I was on the verge of falling asleep. Don't know what to do..

When you mention to do a motionless RC by pretending that you're levitating I'm not really sure why. Is it just to open your eyes if you feel that you're actually levitating?

Also is there any other motionless RC that I can do without opening my eyes and blew everything if I'm still awake?

One more thing. When you lay down with your eyes closed (and later too when there's HI going on) are you visualizing stuff by paying attention to the back of your closed eyelids or it's just on your head? I visualize stuff in my "head" like I'm dreaming or "day dreaming" and ignore what's going on my eyelids.

You shouldn't test if you are asleep or in a dream by moving or opening your eyes. Motionless RC is to test reality without moving. If you suspect you are asleep, just think "if this was a dream, I would float to the kitchen". Or something similar.

Sometimes you already see the dream around you, but you just don't realize it. So if you see anything, you can think "if this was a dream, that wall would change color to blue". Or something similar.

And yes, you can start visualizing in order to kick start the dreaming process just by thinking about something. With your eyes closed. When you just layed down, you will most likely not see any HH right away. So you can watch the fog swirling behing your closed eyelids. You may notice some images forming later or even movies, that are the dreams already waiting for you to enter. Once you start seeing this, that will be the only thing you see and you don't have to pick if you wanna watch HH or back of your eyelids.

I normally have auditory hallucinations, last night I heard my door creak open and heard foot steps like a large wolf walked in to my room. I've had wolves/werewolves in my dreams since i was little scares the s**t out of me. It likes to ruin my wild attempts D: other than that i feel vibrations and see shapes on the back of my eyelids, sometimes I'm talking to people in my head, although i try not to interact like this to much other wise ill enter the dream non-lucid. Lol, I did hear my door creak open once. In the middle of my room, where of course, there is no door. And I wasn't even WILDing, just doing some breathing excercises.

What can help is to keep thinking of something nice and peacefull. Like your next LD, and what you want to do in it. Unless it's slaying werewolves, lol. Then think of something else, like a nice meadow or floating in space.

And not everybody experiences all sensations, or not all the time. So yes, that's perfectly normal.

Hi,I'm a bit new here,so first of all hi :3.Second of all,I THINK I might have been sooo close to WILDing before,but I got too excited and woke up.I heard the door creak open,and I first,I was starting to get seriously scared because I didn't know what is was.Then I remembered what I had read here(yes,I've been stalking this site.For the past week.)and I calmed down,a bit,before getting excited again.That just made me wake up.The thing is,I'm not sure if I was actually awake or not,because it could have just been my mom or dad.

I have a bit of an issue whenever I attempt WILD. I have sometimes got to the point of vibrations (I think, at least - it's like my whole body is shivering, particularly in the stomach region), but I get a little distracted because, well, it gets my man bits "excited" as soon as I start trying to WILD :S I hope that's not inappropriate, but it happens every time.... Seriously frustrating.

Additionally, after vibrations have stopped, I'll say try and lift my arm or something, to see if I have sleep paralysis, but it just lifts straight away (although it feels strange), and I'm able to just get right up from bed, and I'm wide awake. Am I perhaps misreading signals or something?

Nanosr, I have seen others mention arousal as part of their WILD experience, so it isn't abnormal. I can see why it would be distracting, but lots of strange things can happen, and if you keep working on WILDing, you'll get better at just going with the flow.

As for your second issue, I would advise you to forget about the sleep paralysis. Despite what you may have heard, it isn't important, and you don't need it for WILDing. Checking whether you're in a LD is of course a good idea, but there are ways of doing that without waking yourself up. Have you tried simply looking through your eyelids? That works great because you just keep staring at the inside of your eyelids until you see something, and then you're 100% sure that you are dreaming and it's safe to get up and get on with whatever you want to do.

Yeah when I've been transitioning to a WILD, I've heard the door open, or heard people or pet come in the room, or onto the bed, when I KNEW that I was home alone. That's how I knew I was dreaming, so I just got up out of the bed and started the lucid. Super easy to mistake for real life and end up in a FA, I know that's right. Best thing is to assume you ARE dreaming, rather than miss the opportunity.

Hi, I have been trying WILDs lately, and every night I have gotten closer (sometimes not). Today, I took a nap because I didnt get enough sleep (especially REM sleep) and attempted a WILD. I got relaxed and I didnt even have to say my mantra because I was aware enough already, I did later though. I listened to binaural beats and focused on relaxing each body part. After a while I got strong vibrations and I saw some shapes and patterns. This happened several times, and I was waiting for the dream. After a while a felt like I was floating and sinking and all of that. Nothing happened and I gave up after two hours. And yes I did a reality check and I wasnt dreaming. What did I do wrong? Maybe I wasnt close enough to the REM stage because it was at 3PM and I woke up at 6AM. Oh and I had a coffee half an hour earlier which probably wasnt the best idea. But still nothing happened even though I felt the vibrations and all of that.

I think what you say could have happened. Maybe you were not close to REM.

But, have you RCed after the floating and sinking? What was the RC? Or maybe you got excited and it all ended because of that.

I wouldn't worry though, because what you describing is a wonderful progress. That's exactly how transition should be. Or at least some of them. Because you don't always experience same as you did last time. And please don't wait for images, HH or dreams. They may never show up, and you may transition differently. Like with motion sensations.

I have had the same thing happen to me what you are describing. Then I have read here on DV from others, how after or even during the sensations, they just stand up or roll out of their bodies. I was like "wow, really? I gotta try". So few times, I tried to stand up, but I could tell I'm not in a dream and my physical body would move had I completed the movement. But then one time, I tried again, and I stood up and I was inside of the dream. I was a surprise, because I was 100% sure, I'm still awake and it didn't work.

From what I understand, you just have to go for it, right? But I was wondering if it's possible to just wait till after the vibrations and wait until a dream forms. Is that possible? Or would you possibly already be in a dream. But my eyes would be closed. How would a dream have formed without me noticing it or seeing it happen? I suppose it makes sense I'm just a little confused. Or would the dream start in complete darkness so that the transition would be seamless?

Here is the deal:

If you are not asleep yet and not dreaming when you try to move, then your physical body will move. But if you are dreaming, then your dream body will move. To me, I can easily tell which body would move if I complete the motion. When I sense the physical would move, then I stop moving. But when the dream body moves, you realize it right away and you go "yeeey" and you complete the movement.

But, I don't just simply move when trying this. What I mean by "complete the motion":

You can practice this during day. Lay down on your back and roll to the side, as if rolling over, or when you start to stand up from the bed. Pay attention how your muscles and your body feels when you do that. Now do the same without actually moving your muscles. Give them mental command to roll to the side. Initiate the movement, but don't move. Imagine your dream body as a duplicate of your physical body, that's inside you. Same shape, same size, everything. Only it's not physical. You will be trying to roll that body out. Try to wiggle it side to side, try to roll it out. Imagine it turning and rolling and standing up.

Then when you are WILDing, do the same. Mental command while imagining how you roll. If you don't move, you are likely still awake. If you roll out, congrats, you are WILDing.

You can try different motionless RCs. You can also practice these. Again on your back, or whichever position you WILD in, hands where you normally have them during sleep. Try to lift your hands in front of you to see them. In a dream, your dream hands will move.

It's good to repeat some mantra while doing this. Maybe something "when I roll (see my hands), I'm dreaming".


You could just wait for a dream to form. But they don't always form like that. Sometimes you transition (cross) into a LD via some sensation, and not a visual. Don't wait for anything specific to happen. Many different things can happen, all you need to do is to recognize it. Which is easier said than done.

For me, hardest transition to recognize was when I started seeing my room. I didn't see anything suspicous about it. There were no sensations, except maybe some vibrations. But I waited for some bigger "sign". So don't wait for big signs, you may be already in a dream at any point. Do motionless RC, try to levitate up, roll out, stand up...

It may take a few tries, you may stand up a few times and ruin your attempt, but every time will teach you how things feel and you will get a better feel of it for next time. Trial and error, there is no other way around it. Good luck and happy dreams

Oh, wow! That actually makes perfect sense! I will practice this and really feel my physical body, so that when I am attempting a WILD I would know if it's my physical body or my dream body, correct? I am going to attempt a WILD tonight too. I have one more question, though. I obviously need an anchor for WILDs, but I'm not sure what to use. I could count, focus on breathing, say a mantra etc...Do I just have to experiment to find what works for me? And I have always either fallen asleep or not been able to sleep. I read somewhere about the yoyo effect: Dozing off and getting back to awareness and your anchor, then drifting away and coming back again. Is this what you're trying to do with the anchor?And are there any ways to exercise doing this passively? I know this is all about sensations and types of entry, but you seem to be knowledgeable about the WILD technique!

I always get into WILD by jumping into the screen. After all the awesome hallucinations I know I'm about to get into it when the screen appears, like a movie screen. First it's very small, then it gets bigger enough for me to jump into it, but recently everytime I pass through the screen I feel a very weird electric/vibration/buzzing/disturbing sensation I cannot properly describe, as if I'm passing through some kind of electromagnetic field... if I introduce my hand I feel it only in my hand, it feels only in the part of the body that I introduce into the screen, once I'm on the other side it gets back to normal, but this "layer" can really hold me back, not only because of the overwhelming sensation, but because it also acts as a big repellent magnet... has anybody experienced this???

Yeah, the entering the video, or screen as you say, was my earliest method of entering LDs. Started small, then grew into full field view, with me flying over it. Was fun : D

And the sensation you experience entering, hrm, I have not heard of it before. Can it be something that you kinda expect? Sometimes when I walk through solid objects I feel some resistance, as if I feared that i won't be able to do it. Not sure if what you saying is the same though.

But the magnetic thing - sometimes when I exit my body by standing up, I can walk away a few feet, only it gets harder and I'm being pulled back by what I call a bungy cord. I can claw at nearby objects to stop being pulled back, but it never helps.

It's probably one of those things, haha. Sure, I would love to know what it is, but if not, I'm just gonna enjoy it. Happy travels.

I keep listening to a lucid hypnosis session while relaxing on my bed, I never seem to get in the dream. I need help.

BTW I listened to the mp3 in the afternoon.

I haven't really practiced WILD yet, although it is something I want to achieve. I think I've had some near-WILD-experiences as a child and even last night I had this. I was just lying in bed and if I stayed still long enough, it would feel as if my bed was rocking as if it was on a boat, or sometimes it would spin or go up and down as if I was on a roller coaster. Once I felt as if the bed was tilting upwards and I felt like I was going to fall out of bed. I would always do this at night to feel that sensation because I loved it so much, it was like being rocked to sleep (except when I felt like I was going to fall).

Now whenever I attempt WILD (or even just going to sleep), I have those sensations (water bed, heavy body as if someone was sitting on me, vibrations) and a couple of auditory hallucinations, but I find it hard to stay still, even when I do manage, my foot will start twitching. I try hard to focus on the patterns behind my eyelids or something else but end up tensing my foot so it will stop. I'm going to try the Dream Images entry tonight but I can never stop twitching or moving my hand just a little bit because I realise its in a straining position etc...

Whenever im trying a WILD i get the heavy feeling followed by HH(HI). The HH is just the black background and the grey swirls. Then i feel my body float up and spin. I passively wait for the imagery, but it never shows up. After about a minute or so of levitating i feel myself enter back into my body. Should i open my eyes when i levitate or continue to wait for the images?

I am a bit confused here with WILD. So I lay in bed while keeping my mind awake, and when I start to feel vibrating and see HI, then I get out of bed and will be in my dream body, or wait for the HI to become a dream scene?

I tried doing WILD last night with the WBTB. I set my alarm for 3:10 am and made sure my alarm was on. Then I woke up at 7am, when I get up for the day, and noticed the alarm had been silenced, and I have no recollection of ever pushing the button. I guess I must put the alarm in a place where I will have to get up more or i’ll still be asleep and just push the button to shut it up.

Had a short wild experience this morning but the sensation to the entrance was quite nothing like it :)
i ran into a sleep paralysis (i honestly have no idea how i always get into this part..)
i stayed calm as usual but then i started to hear this woman talking with music in the background as if i were listening to a radio or something. that was like the coolest exp yet! then my body started swaying left and right..then up and down. so now im like ok wat the heck is going on

Dude, this stuff varies so much for everyone. I spent months trying every technique imaginable. I tried galantamine. I tried counting, meditation, a dozen different anchors. Then finally one day WILD just happened. Then I found myself WILDing without any effort, and now I just know whether the conditions are right to have one at bedtime. My best success happens when I first go to bed, when hypnogogia happens to be really cracking and I always start in an NREM darkness and then cycle through a number of false awakenings until I'm in REM.

In my experience WILD took a ton of work, but when you stumble across the experience, your brain gets trained with a new skill and it's not a big strenuous ordeal anymore. All you can do is dedicate yourself to trying all the different techniques and maybe eventually you'll be lucky. It's impossible to describe the transition from waking to dreaming. "Rolling out of your body" wasn't helpful to me. It's a very subtle thing that has to almost accidentally happen the first time, and then you know what you're really looking for, in my experience anyway.

True, WILDing process is very individual. It differes even for same person on different tries.

But once you have your first one, you will get a feel for it and next one will be easier because now you know you can do it. The next attempt will most likely be different, but there will be some aspects that remain the same. Like the "dream feel". All it takes is experimenting.

A little tip, if you feel that the sensation is too intense for you, adjust your breathing to the sensation and it will soon ease! :cheeky:

I'm not experienced with meditation, so I don't know if sensations are desired. But when you are WILDing, sensations could be taken as a mile marker to let you know you are getting close to a dream. Intense sensations normally last only few seconds and you can either enter a LD while they are happening, or soon after.

I tried this for the first time today after having experience with multiple false awakenings! I wasnt expecting it but I did it first time! I followed all of the steps in your guide and couldn't believe it when I felt the familiar body tingling that I feel when I'm not trying to do it!!

Reminding yourself that the visual and auditory hallucinations are a mile marker, rather than a stepping stone, really works wonders in keeping calm. I'm the kind of person who's scared of her own bedroom at night so you can imagine how terrifying even the slightest sound is for me.

For my last few attempts, I've had trouble keeping my eyes closed just as the hypnagogic imagery begins. Anyone else have the same problem or know how to handle it?

Same! I found my eyes twitching and it took a lot of effort to keep them closed. Didn't get to LD and opened them in the end when my alarm went off.

whenever i try to lucid dream, i go into the lucid dream but when i do an RC, i just get kicked back out. i first thought i was too excited but i was not excited at all. but the weird thing is, whenever i wake back up from being lucid and go back to sleep, i always go into a dream where i am not lucid.

does anyone know how to fix this problem?

So everytime you get lucid you do a reality check and that wakes you up? Or sometimes you do not RC and you are able to continue on with your lucid dream? Is this all WILDs or DILDs?

I keep trying to do a WILD but I end up getting to deep sleep and losing control and not even dreaming.

You may be too sleepy to stay awake until the right time. Or, you may not be wilding after at least 5 hrs of sleep. Tell us more.

My hypnogogia is always really strong as soon as I close my eyes. It makes it hard for me to know if Im getting any closer to a LD. Any tips?
