a few WILD questions
ok so night before last a had my first intended lucid and my first WILD. a few days before my freind had realy got me into lucid dreaming and told me that he does WILDS by listening to a relaxation hypnotism track for a while, then going to bed and when you start seeing the first few visions of dreams (theres a term for that right?) come in to start counting your breaths to keep you alert and then when the dream visions get stronger just imagine stepping into the dream.
so night before last im spending my night looking at various ld tuts, WILD especialy, and i go to bed, put on a hypnotism track, and repeat a few mantras of you will be in a lucid dream tonight, you will be aware you are dreaming, you will controll your dream. i set aside my laptop, roll over, and with the mantra still ringing in my head i close my eyes and after a while start counting breaths...next thing i know i have just blinked myself out of getting eaten by zombies. no lucid but of course i wasnt expecting a lucid my first night. i roll over, and start counting breaths again (want to get in the habit), i see the dream visions get stronger and try stepping in, grabbing, zooming, ect, nothing works, then suddenly the whole world goes realy bright and clear and vivid...BINGO :D , i do some stabalizing (spin, run around in circles, speak "enhance lucidity now" at my dream untill im sure i can stay there for a while) and then i pinch myself (as if apearing in the middle of a forest isnt enough to tell me im dreaming)
then i spend most of the dream running around, spend part facing my fear of bees, and then i wake up...i cant belive i that worked.
so the next night i do pretty much the same thing, i listen to a hypno track, fall asleep, wake up (this time at the end of the dream), roll over and start counting breaths, but this time, even after counting 326 breaths and trying over and over to grab, walk, step, jump, fly, and teleport into my dream, i had nothing to show for it. i gave up and fell asleep for fear of sleep loss.
now i am in no way discouraged by this, i mean the first time was a real surprise in itself, i was just wondering what the difference was between the two. was the first one just random and shouldent set the standard, or might the second one just be a bad night (i know i should have a few more examples before i start going in like this but im the kind of person who trys to tweak things before i know everything). also might the difference in the first and second be the point in which i awoke from the dream before (forced wakeup vs dream end), somthing to do with rem cycles? im not sure the time of the wakeups but i am fairly sure that the first was later than the second. finaly is there anything i should try differantly with, or in adition to, my methods here. i know that WILDS are a more advanced thing but while im trying to work out the kinks with other methods, and have this opertunity, i would love to work on this skill too.
thanks in advance for any answers/sugestions, and happy dreaming.

Hey there.
Congratulations on the first success! You're right, WILD requires more mental preparation, so it won't be a surprise if you don't get it consistently at first. How many hours into sleep did you wake up? Many people find the optimum Wake Back to Bed time around 4-6 hours after initial sleep. But then again, sleep cycles are different for everyone so I would suggest experimenting with the time you wake up, as well as the amount of time you stay up before attempting the WILD.
I honestly find it hard to determine conclusions based on your two attempts. Try it a few more times, and take note of the things you do before, during, and after your attempts. Also, remember that what makes it a success is not the track you're listening to. They merely help you get into a better state of mind for WILDing. What I mean to say is that there are many different ways to achieve that state of mind such as meditation and relaxation techniques.
Please check out: WILD (Sageous) for a more in-depth discussion on the aspects of WILD

thanks for the sugestions, ill try some meditation tonight. i think the first time was somewere around 5 hours, but im not sure about the second, i also tried last night, i puled myself out of the dream this time and and just stayed still counting and im pretty sure i got alot closer, still no success though and not sure what time i woke up. im going to get an alarm clock set up tonight and see what that does. is the time i wake up from my dreams affecting my chances or am i just wasting my energy there?
thanks again for the help

Please keep in mind, that no two attempts will be the same. There is just too many components for an attempt to go the same way and with same results. That's not necessarily a bad thing. It makes it more interesting, because you don't really know, what's gonna happen.
Difference between your first successfull attempt and second not successfull could be so many things.
One of them could be, that first time it was a surprise, second time you expected it and maybe you were forcing it a little.
Time of attempt, length of sleep, REM, pretty much anything. And even if everything was exactly the same, there is no guarantee.
But I like my failed attempts too. Love the vibrations, the HH can be sometimes as good and enjoyable as LD itself. And you gain experience. So keep it up. :alien:

ok hey guys and thanks for all the help, right now i just have a few Q&A type things:
1. (and i have asked this before but im not sure if anybody answered so sorry) does the point in which i wake up from a dream (pulling myself out vs. just finishing the dream) have any affect on my dream?
2. would going to bed earlier or later than normal have any affect on my atempts, WILD or otherwise.
3. i have been atempting to WILD when im just going to bed (before any dreams that night) in adition to my middle of the night wakeups. do those atempts have any chance of success, or could they possibly help as some sort of excercise, or is it just a pointless routine.
4.pretty much just a side note here, but are there any methods, other than my "count my breaths and grab my dream" thing im trying now, that you think i should try (i know that everybodys methods are different and all but i just want to try as many different things as possible)
thats about it for now, and of course thanks again for the help.

1. I'm not sure what you mean by pulling yourself out. But what I've noticed is that when I wake up abruptly, such as when I use a loud alarm clock or anything bothers my sleep, dreams tend to be remembered less and seem to be less vivid than when I naturally wake up after every cycle.
2. Yes it does. It is recommended to have a consistent sleep schedule. It would make sense since if you have a whacked sleeping pattern, REM cycles can start varying. That can lead to difficulty in going to sleep or waking up when needed, as well as the quality of your dreams.
3. It is possible to have a WILD upon initial sleep, I've known some people on here who have achieved it. However it is very rare. You can still try if you wish, it can help you practice more with getting into the mindset for a WILD. Don't fret though if it is not very fruitful, as that is expected. :)

thanks :)
and by pulling myself out i mean waking myself up out of a dream, im not sure exactly how to describe it but sometimes when im in a dream i somehow know that if i close my eyes tight i will leave what im doing or where im at so i do and i wake up
-
Ahh I see. Luckily for me, I almost never wake up when I close my eyes in a dream. I've gotten used to it already I think. I mostly close my eyes when I wanna switch dream scenes or make things appear. The trick is to focus on what you want to happen when you reopen them, and nothing else. Because I think when you lose focus while closing your eyes, that can contribute to you waking up for real. :D

hmm, im going to make sure to try that next time. so anyway im better off just sleeping than waking myself up?
-
I would guess so. Unless you wanted to wake up to perform maybe a DEILD or WBTB or somehthing, then it's be good to wake yourself up.
