Indication of WILD/Help!

Hello folks,

I'm having troube figuring out how far i have progressed with my WILD. I was wondering if anyone that has more experience could give me an indication of how far i am, and maybe a few quick tips.

First of all i'm pretty sure i've reached sleep paralysis, my whole body goes numb and requires concentration to move a certain body part. Beyond that, at times it feels like my body has sunk through my bed. Im guessing this is sleep paralysis. My problem is moving on from there, i find it easy enough to get to sleep paralysis, if it is what i am experiencing and have no trouble lying still or not swallowing, but it seems like i am stuck there...does anybody have any advice on how to continue? I try to visualize my dreamscape but with no success. This next part is very hard to explain but at times it feels like for 2 seconds a dream flashes before my eyes...but i'm not lucid in this dream (or its too short to determine if i am) and this happens several times even though i don't feel like im losing consciousness. Am i somehow supposed to consciously try to make those 2 seconds into an extended dream i.e my dreamscape and then try to interact with it and that way become lucid? I'm a tad bit confused because when i read posts on this forum it always says that your need "HI" to slowly transform into a dream and then interact with it....however i rarely get any form of "HI". I don't know if this last bit made any sense to you, but i feel like i'm close but at the same time it feels like im missing some vital ingredient. Is it just me making my self believe that i'm close when in reality im not? Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

SP is if you can't move at all, no matter what. What you having is not SP. Body numb, heavy, light, are normal signs of falling asleep. But don't worry, you don't need SP to have a LD.
Sinking through bed is a good sign. I would say it's one of the signs of you entering a dream.

Not SP. You can move, scratch, swallow if you have to. Although process is faster if you don't.

It's good to visualize, because it activates part of the brain that deals with dreaming. But visualizing is actually very simple. All you need to do is think of a previous dream. later when you get more skilled, you can try and visualize some new vistas, place you would like to visit to incubate a dream.

Those short dreams and images are the beginning of a dream. Great sign. Just keep watching them, don't do anything about them. They will get longer.

Just observe them passively. They will continue on their own. For me, at first I see them as a movie. But later I kinda see them as if from birds eye view. I'm flying over them. That's when I pick a spot in the dream and say slowly and deliberately "I.... am.... there". This transports me inside a dream and I feel like environment changed to that from a movie to 3D.

You do get HI - just keep your awareness a little longer untill they evolve and then find your method of entering them.

But just so you know, you may not always get HI. HI is just one of the methods of entering a WILD. Here is an article about it Sensations and types of entry into WILD. Happy dreams and keep us posted:alien:

In SP you can't move your body at all. It is not just your ability being hampered, it is cut off. It happens every night when you enter REM.

This should clear up your thoughts on that. :) I am not a WILD expert. I have only had about 6. :P The more lucid dreams you have, the easier it is to slip into the dream state. Some are naturals at WILD and they are pretty good at the start. I would recommend trying some form of DILD technique while still trying to WILD at night. This is what I have always done. I guess I have about 1 WILD a month and 10 DILDs (if you count the first few months that I didn't DJ). So I see no reason why you shouldn't try both. Read as many tutorials as you can, but make sure to find your own method for everything. All those that are great oneironauts have a method that they use for themselves. I am rambling. Good luck! Don't worry PeanutMuncher, I had a similar problem but it seems if you just stick with then it will happen. You're very lucky in that you get flickers of dreams starting to form, most beginners wouldn't get as far on their first couple of attempts and give up as a result. Take this as a good sign and stick at it.

Hello again,

Thanks for all the feedback and encouragement guys, i was beginning to feel a bit disheartened, but this will keep me focused. I just finished an attempt at a WILD, and although it was unsuccessful i feel like i was close again. I had really strange sensations in my mouth, it felt like my lips were glued together and my teeth we're slowly grinding through my lips. At another point i was sure i yawned even though i knew my mouth was sealed shut. I also had the flickering of dreams again, however i think i become too conscious when this happens and that prevents the dreams from developing, because i always start to think "oh am i in a LD now" instead of concentrating on being passively aware. If you guys feel like you become too aware during WILD, do you have any mantras or other techniques you use to become less aware? That would definitely be very helpful to know because i feel like thats preventing me.

Any mantra will do. Something short is the best, but whatever sounds and feels good to you will work. I use "I'm dreaming". This helps to keep other thoughts at bay and it also helps you to stay aware while your body is falling asleep.

It's normal to get excited when you think you are very close to LD. Heartbeat goes up and breathing may go up. It's normal. Jut may be just seconds from LD then, so just stick with it. Keep telling yourself it's normal. Keep trying, it will get less frightening with more experience.

When some HH - falling, flying, vibrations... stop, do a motionless RC. "If this was a dream, I would float" and see what happens. Many times you already in a dream, but it feels like you are still awake and doing your attempt, or that you have failed. You may see just darkness, or your room and be in LD. So try these RCs frequenty.

When do you decide to use the mantra? As soon as you begin with your WILD induction or later on, when you are closer to sleep?

Do you mean, like what is described in the free-falling technique by jeff? Where you go to bed normally and then catch yourself before you lose consciousness completely?

Thanks for that tip, i thought it was mostly your thoughts that you shouldn't pay attention too, as that would make you too aware...but i'll be sure to remember this.

Yeah, im actually not freightened at all by SP, or by the different sensations that you get...on the contrary i actually find it quite interesting as i know its all in my head.

There are times when my eyes open and im still lying in my room, so its hard to tell whether i'm in a dream or not...i have a shirt hanging on my wall which i look at, apparently the writing is supposed to change if you are in a dream? Don't know whether this is a suitable RC or not, but ill give yours a try. I've been thinking of sleeping with a sleeping mask on, and if i open my eyes and can see something then i must be in a dream.

Do you know what effect opening your eyes has? For example if it breaks paralysis? Making you need to start all over, because at times i find my eyes opening more and more the longer i lay in bed. Its tricky sometimes because i'll think its my dream eyes opening and then when there open im still lying in my room.

Anyways, thanks for the help. I'll give it another try tonight and hopefully have my first LD :)
