So, for reasons unknown, I've had really bad insomnia for the last few days. Basically, I haven't slept.
I've done some looking around and found some people saying how your brain goes straight to REM sleep if you're tired, but some say it's harder to attain lucidity. Could someone please clear this up for me? My life is a living Hell because I keep failing at every attempt to become lucid... Is this the reason?
Great question - this may be an unscientific answer but my own experience suggests that yes you tend to have more dreams in general but they can be quite fleeting and wild if your sleep schedule is messed up. Likely not ideal for a good quality LD experience. You may have short periods of lucidity without control perhaps.
I can back this up; having really bad sleep patterns at the moment. Had a dream where I was lucid, I knew I was dreaming, so I was flying and stuff and I was killing the dream characters who were trying to stop me being lucid :PQuote:

There are many factors that can contribute to having a successful WILD or FILD on any range of sleeping.
You have to take into account of REM rebound and all sorts of things that may get you a vivid WILD. Some people may have night jobs, and after a while, the urge to sleep during the morning through the afternoon is stronger, and they are more likely to have quick but very vivid lucid dreams because the moment they close their eyes, they're suddenly aware of the sensations of a WILD (warping, rotating, floating, etc).
I would say it's possible to WILD or FILD, but the success rate might be lower or higher depending on that person's ability to sustain awareness in a groggy state. If they can, then good, but if they really want some sleep, they might just say "Ah screw it," and sleep like a baby. Even with that, they might get a lucky DILD or MILD pulled off, but it just depends.
