this morning I woke up at 5:00am and did a WILD so my advice is from experience, not a wannabe know it all, sorry about the expression but im a honest person.
If you go to bed at 10pm the the time for wilding is 5am(if you dont go to bed at a different time rem ps. are uneven and you have to find the timing yourself)
since youre at the peak of sleep get out of bed, stretch and lay on your side. you will then see your dreamsigns appering and desappering, each time getting wider, more colorful and simply amazing. after the dream is stable you have to move your awareness into your new temporary reality. the one I use is touching my toes with my finger tips. remember, in your dreams you are only consciousness meaning if you want to be an eagle and fly you can the key is to make a connection with your new, temporary body. You can also time travel.
EDIT: do NOT focus on the images, only enjoy them.
Sounds like you just got too excited and that moved you back towards wakefulness. Excitement is good prior to your WILD attempt to help motivate you, but during the attempt excitement can be your enemy. A WILD is never something you can force to happen. Calm always wins in the end.
Part of WILD is mental gymnastics. You have to remain simultaneously relaxed and peaceful, with your mind completely open to the idea of a dream forming, while still maintaining awareness so that you don't lose lucidity. Don't get too excited - passively observe, while remaining open to the possibility that they may turn into dreamlets... or that they may not. WILD takes patience and practice, just keep trying. Remember that you have several tries a night once you learn to wake up between REM cycles. :) In addition, often a failed WILD can lead to a DILD.
When you see the colors you can also try to mentally "walk forward" into the colors. With your dream feet, not your real ones. You can also try to reach out with your dream hands and touch them. They may coalesce into a dream... or they may not. You can't force it though, you'll just end up flailing around and frustrated.
Like dms111 said, the important thing is to remain calm. SystemicAlec's advice to wait until later REM cycles is also good. WILD can be challenging but it is one of the most reliable and rewarding methods once you master it.
One of the advantages of learning how to lucid dream is that it also teaches one patience.
You shouldn't get too excited.
You must be really relaxed. Also, you must try many times in order to succeed. Some people like me can do it with the first time but others need practice.
You should also be patient.
Clear your mind, imagine yourself falling and falling into darkness. Then start lucid dreaming xD
Sounds like you became too awake during hypnagogic state, as everyone said, be calm and keep your cool next time you'll get to this state, then you should be able to reach transition phase if everything goes right! :poof:
