So close to a wild - whyyy

So I had my first and only truly successful WILD (albeit a somewhat hazy lucid dream) about a month ago. Since then I have been obsessively practicing it every night before bed, and attempting to execute it nearly every morning when I can convince myself to get out of bed for more than a bathroom break. Since that successful WILD I had two attempts VERY soon after where I felt a shift in awareness and knew I was in sleep paralysis, but I failed them, presumably because I was over excited, or perhaps over-thinking the imminent transition into a dream state. The thing is, that time that I actually successfully WILD'ed, was actually after a long bout of trying to WILD all the time. As soon as I gave up, it kind of happened naturally. I was VERY still very exhausted in the morning before I tried it, and the last thing on my mind before going to take a nap was lucid dreaming... Yet, after doing the normal routine of gradually thinking myself to sleep, I suddenly gained some passive awareness and snapped back to my bed, where I felt a sudden shift in awareness like my body was just buzzing and sinking into the bed, accompanied by a very loud ringing. I knew i was in sleep paralysis, and I entered the lucid dream VERY naturally, almost without thinking. Is that the trick...? Just... not really paying attention to the transition? Because ever since, I had those two failed attempts where I couldn't help but feel excited, and I felt myself unintentionally break out of sleep paralysis... And then AGAIN.

This morning, it happened again, where I was thinking myself to sleep and then seemingly effortlessly fell into a passive awareness about my body JUST BEFORE I entered sleep paralysis.. So i felt it, and then tried to keep myself calm and imagine my dream scene. In the moment, I was fed up with the fact that I was only seeing pretty vivid hypnagagia at best, surrounded by the usual blackness that we see before falling asleep. Before I knew it, I wasn't in SP anymore. Can someone please help me? I don't think I am very natural at doing this technique, even though it would be my preferred technique if I could just get it to work for me. That sensation I got from my first actual WILD of a sudden feeling of my mind literally journeying out of my body and into a dream-state was the most ecstatic experience I have ever had, and I strive to have it again. So, should I just try to have a more meditative mindset when I realize I have sleep paralysis? Because most tutorials I have seen described that when you are in sleep paralysis, that is when mental action is needed, and that you need to focus mental energy on trying to create a dream scene. Any ideas on why this keeps failing for me? Thanks a lot for any feedback!

Are you sure you were in SP, like truly not being able to move, have you tested it? There's a common misconception about SP, people mistake REM Atonia and normal sensations of falling asleep for it: http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...explained.html , also it's not a requirement for WILD, and never was. :zzz:
WILD is just about falling asleep while being aware of it, which is what happened to you when you were successful i guess, i suggest you to read this in-depth tutorial, it contains alot of information on the WILD process: http://www.dreamviews.com/wild/ :)

That's not true, as long as you use WBTB and time it with your REM Sleep cycles you should be fine, a lot of people do not have time to nap during the day, so they do their WILD's at night, and it's perfectly fine, sure naps may be better or easier but by no way is it impossible to WILD at night. Both are extremely viable ways and both are better in their own ways, it all comes down to what the dreamer thinks is he's and what fits in there time table.

Right. It's not that I actually attempt to induce WILD's at night, but rather I utilize night as time to practice, because it helps get in the experience required for morning, and it also helps me pass out when I've had enough of practicing it.

Sorry for the weird comments that seem like they're not directed at anyone, I'm still new to dreamviews, so bear with me :shock:

Nice way to look at it, it really helps being able to try your WILD and if you fail go to sleep, have a dream and recall it, write it in your dream journal, as you feel like the night wasn't a waste (even though it wouldn't be if you just tried to WILD as it is still progress, and nothing beats progress!) and that can be the changing factor, being able to stick a something is a very good skill to have and you are defiantly going on the right track for that skill so good job!

It helps if you quote someone, and then write your message to them below the quote as it the. Shows there message and also notifies them.

But I did confirm that it was in fact sleep paralysis because during paralysis I heard my roommate open our obnoxiously loud and creaky door, turn on his PS3, and proceed to start yelling at people on live, (which he always does and it annoys the hell out of me) during paralysis I figured he was actually there and that I'd just keep ignoring him to try to enter the dream, but as soon as I fell out of paralysis I saw that I was alone in the room.

Hypnagogic Hallucinations which you are describing are generally normal sensations of falling asleep, which can't indicate whether you are experiencing sleep paralysis or not, we all do experience various level of HH when being aware of falling asleep process, the only way to test is to try to move, if it's really SP you will not be able to move no matter how hard you will try. :zzz:
And to think about it, you could have been already dreaming at that point, i recall a few of my false awakenings that actually started with hearing somebody entering the room, then distracting me from WILD in some way, and then with me being distracted, opening eyes, forgetting to RC and continuing the dream being non-lucid. :-?

Lol dude a few weeks ago when I was still super amped after having my first WILD, I went and tried WILDing in the afternoon, but failed just because i was too lazy and tired. So I had a dream where I had this long day at this weird museum I think, and when I went back to my bed I tried to have a WILD (still in the dream) And actually did it.. I had a vivid out of body experience within my dream, even though when I actually woke up it was somewhat hazy.. Like when I went back to my body after the out of body experience, I woke up just as excited as I did in waking life after it happened, and I told everyone in the dream world about my experience. They apparently had similar experiences earlier that day, and I somehow didn't catch on that I was still in a dream... Now THAT would have been a cool experience. In my dream journal its called ''Inception'' :D

But you don't really want to be in sleep paralysis: sleep paralysis is not a normal/necessary part of WILD. I don't know whether or not I would move at that point: if you find out you can't move, you've got two options (either you are in sleep paralysis which means still awake but unable to move, or you are dreaming of being paralyzed because you are expecting it), and if you can move you've got two more options (either you are awake and in that case you may risk waking yourself too much, or you are asleep and then the movement is actually a movement of your dream body not your actual body). The way I figure only one of these four options is desirable: I would not want to feel paralyzed whether awake or dreaming, and I wouldn't want to risk waking myself, so I would only want the fourth option of dreaming and able to move. Personally, I would continue to be as aware as I can be, not move but observe for a while, and only try to move once I was more sure that I was actually dreaming. What do you think of that plan, anyone? Btw, I am in a similar boat in that I had one successful WILD, but all attempts since then have either kept me too awake, or I fell asleep loosing consciousness. I keep trying. Good luck to both of us.

Just in case it's false awakening and you are already dreaming, try moving dream body by visualizing getting up or floating off the bed first, other than that, small movements should not affect the process i think, you really just have to just fall asleep while being aware of it like i said before. :zzz:

You were pretty close, you should have done reality check on waking up, you could have turned it lucid, that's why doing reality check every time on awakening is important. Also i have done WILD from indream numerous times, those don't count as WILDs though, but as DILDs since they are dream induced, but WILD from dream can be just as good as normal WILD. :)
