      Question about extreme discomfort

I have attempted WILD the past couple of weeks and have had some success in the past. I found it easier to WILD in the past because I found it so intriguing and loved the feelings it brought. I still love the feelings it brings, but it is much harder to reach, and only for the reason of extreme discomfort. I usually attempt WILD about six hours hours after I fall asleep. After I wake up, I usually go right into the attempt. Almost always, I will usually have great success in the first 10-15 minutes and then start feeling an extreme desire to sleep. After I get this feeling, I will either keep going and succeed less than half the time, or just stop. I hate to just stop, but the discomfort is just too strong. I was wondering if anyone has something they think about or do that stops this discomfort quickly, because it is the main thing that makes me fail.

Why you find desire to sleep to be discomforting? WILD is just about falling asleep while being aware of it, so fighting will only keep you too awake. Unless i have misunderstood your post i don't see anything wrong with it, maybe you are just overthinking it?
But if the case that you having hard time keeping awareness is what you meaning, you could try extending a time before your WBTB a bit or maybe doing a bit more active things during it, WILDing is often a way of experimenting with times and schedule until you find the time which keeps the balance of being aware enough, but still sleepy enough.

Hmm, is it a mental discomfort, like a hallucination? Or is it an actual physical discomfort? If it is a physical discomfort, I recommend rolling over to comfortable spot and then keep going with your technique as if you have never moved. If you aren't physically comfortable, you are going to have a hard time falling asleep and completing your WILD. If you believe it to be a hallucination the best thing to do is to ignore the hallucination and pretend you aren't experiencing this discomfort. It will soon pass and be replaced by another hallucination.

When I start to feel discomfort (while lying on my back) I simply turn over to my side or on my belly and continue. Then I ussually enter a dream quite soon.

As my fellows state above "Fall Asleep."

It is considered hard, because it is a new type of awareness, and requires some experimenting and adapting. Yes, you want to stay aware, but you also want to fall asleep. Are you familiar with the concept of using an anchor?

Using an anchor to stay aware while your body falls asleep: If your mind is occupied with real life issues like homework, you may not be able to sleep. If you stop thinking you may loose awareness. Many people attempt to WILD simply by learning a relaxed form of attention that fools their body into believing the mind is asleep and all is normal. In fact, the goal is to fall asleep. You want to hold on to the very edge of awareness, and kind of sneak your mind along as your body actually sleeps.
Most people use some variation of perhaps a half dozen general ideas in order to 'anchor.' An example is to count in a very sedate relaxed manner to some low number, then start over, if you space off do not think about that, just resume counting. Never try to remember your place. the idea is just to have a reference to let you know you have a touch of awareness.

After you start feeling as if your body is probably mostly asleep, then you try to dream. You may just passively watch as mental images arise, or some other thing like picturing a scene and pretending it is forming.

That is the general idea anyways, with a hundred variations. So just remember the main point "You must fall asleep"

I have had in the past discomfort when doing WILD, like my hands and feet felt very heavy and I didn't enjoy it, but I think it was just mental, because I focused on the fact that this meant I was close to falling asleep and I reminded myself of the positive things, and it eventually faded.

Yeah, for sure. There is an unlimited amount of the different types of hallucinations and mental activities you can experience during a WILD. Anything you don't particularly enjoy, just try your best to ignore it and act like it isn't even there. If you can do this, it won't be there anymore. It'll fade away and the process continues.
