Why did my WILD fail?
I followed all the instructions the WILD video instructed. I laid on my back, relaxing all the muscles in my body. I took deep, slow breaths, I imagined the the vivid dream I had a few days ago, saying mentally I was going to lucid dream. Later on my whole body was numb, riddled with vibration. I did as the video instructed and concentrated on my eyelid(my eyes were closed). Dark blue and green started swirling. The darkness started to move as thought it was water but nothing else. I repeatedly kept thinking I was going to lucid dream but after 10 minutes nothing happened. I'm wondering why didn't I lucid dream? Also was the colours I saw close to dreaming? Is it because I attempted it to late? I was going to bed at 6 am btw. Or should I have waited longer? Any suggestion/advice is really appreciated.
Sorry I can't link the video as I'm new here.

Greetings and welcome to DV! I have some bad news for you,,, but I also have some good news.
The Bad news,,, LDing is an art form, and WILD even more so. It often takes weeks for your first 30 second long LD. Many can not WILD until they have had a few DILD to prime their minds for it. Also, the easiest kind of LD to recognize is one that happens during an REM sleep cycle. Unfortunately, REM almost never happens when you first attempt to sleep during a night. That is why people get 6 hours sleep. wake themselves up and then try WILD. This act is called WBTB.
The good news,,, We are here to help. Let's start with tutorials, here is a good one on WILD, http://www.dreamviews.com/induction-...cid-dream.html. We are also here to encourage,,, so here is my encouragement. It may take months to start having LDs and a year or more to have the kind of experiences you hope for, but after that you will have the option of keeping it up for the rest of your life. You may end up having thousands of them. They may let you experience flying, traveling the universe, getting personal with supermodels,,, literally anything you can dream.

Sometimes we do everything right, and yet it does not work because the timing was not right, we were too tired or not tired enough, some chemical imbalance within us, or another reason that was perhaps outside of our control that night, but we do the same thing again on another night, and it might work. I wonder whether that's what happened. Try the same technique on other mornings, and see whether it works.

Thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it! I guess it was foolish for me to expect anything for the first night. Great things comes with hard work. What does DILD mean? What's the most depressing is that usually I remember parts of my dream but this morning I remember nothing. I really want to LD and will do anything even if that includes practicing for years to experience. I'm usually an unmotivated person but this is the one thing I wish to experience and master.

Here is a tutorial on DILD: http://www.dreamviews.com/wiki/DILD-Tutorial -- I would recommend trying for both WILD and DILD, some people are more successful with one, and some with the other. Best!

Hi Rivert!
My two cents...
Don't get discouraged and always look at each failure as an opportunity to gain experience for the next episode (I can't take credit for this statement...I got that from someone here on dreamviews!). Most importantly, be thankful and believe. One Love. :)

If you got to where you saw colors and felt funny then that in itself is pretty cool for a first attempt!

**Thread moved to WILD section for topical responses**
So many good responses already.
We're here to help, so if you continue to have issues with WILD, or any LD method, we can answer your questions. :)

To add, if you have time, try napping. Naps are golden for lucid dreaming and can work nicely for WILDing since one is often more aware during the nap and goes quickly into REM or sometimes even straight into REM. :)
Also WILD is not a waiting game, you don't need to think about time during attempt since that might make it harder to fall asleep, and WILD is about keeping awareness while falling asleep.
Also, i highly suggest writing/typing dream journal and doing reality checks + awareness practice, they do help alot with any kind of method or technique, check out this thread for more about that: http://www.dreamviews.com/dild/13212...ods-dilds.html :peek:

Thank you very much. I've been reading DILD and MILD guide thoroughly before I went to sleep. My dream recall is getting better and better. I usually don't remember my dreams but after a week of recording my dreams on my DJ I seem to be having vivid dreams every night. Last night I had multiple vivid dreams last night, 9 I believe, 4 of which I can vaguely remember. I woke up in the middle of the night after having one. Unfortunately I was too tired to write it on my sleep journal so I fell asleep, forgetting it, also forgot to imagine I was going to lucid dream.
All I seem to be having is better vivid dreams. Will they advance to lucid dream? I know it takes time but I feel like I'm missing something important here.

No. You are doing fine. The first steps are to increase vividness and recall. You are doing great. Right on track.

Increased recall and vividness is great! It also means that you are getting more aware in dreams, and more awareness means more chances for getting lucid, keep it up! ;)
