Well, all you need is concentration and motivation. It usually doesn't work the first time you try it, so don't lose your motivation too fast. WILD is all about concentrating in the thought that you must keep your mind conscious while your body is falling asleep. Just wait until the SP is over an then you can start lucid dreaming.
@beijaflor SP is not related to WILD, nor to lucid dreaming in general, there's alot of misconception about it, i strongly recommend reading this thread: http://www.dreamviews.com/wake-initi...mystified.html :-?
@manylucids Keep awareness using your anchor, be it mantra, counting or visualization and never focus on physical senses, also i suggest to not wait for anything, WILD is not a waiting game and waiting can only make it harder to fall asleep, instead, let it happen and enjoy the process. :)

*Moved to WILD*
Well it's not necessarily related to WILD (or LD in general) but a lot of people experience SP before entering a lucid dream (especially using the WILD-method), so imo there IS a relation. And a common mistake that people make while trying to have a WILD is trying to control the dream while they are still in the SP (this will make you wake up). I personally experience SP before 95% of my WILDs.
Have you read that thread? Only small amount of people experience an actual SP disorder, and most of them only experience SP once or twice through whole lifetime, and it's not possible to induce, also many people in the past mistook HH and normal sensations of falling asleep for SP, that's how myth was born. Either way, it's not a requirement to WILD and it's not a part of it. :-?Quote:

How would you call this gab between waking and sleeping, where you feel paralyzed and experience vibrations, hear voices and stuff then? I always thought that was SP, hypnagogic state or something like that.
Well, everyone is talking about SP because that misconception was here for a looooong time, also there's major difference between 'feeling paralyzed' and actually being paralyzed, as for what call it, here's quote from the thread:Quote:

I always only experience numbness, tingling, and hypnagogic imagery. Not that I've ever successfully WILDed (though I've come close). Self hypnosis and remaining still, you say? How, then, can one achieve NREM sleep effects?
NREM sleep effects are not the goal. You should not try to achieve them. In fact, you should not try to achieve anything, other than falling asleep while keeping your consiousness.
The numbness and tingling are normal as you getting relaxed. HH is something you get just before you fall asleep. But you may not get it every time, so don't wait for them either.
