DEILD sleep paralysis?
(I'm a newb :P) For the past two nights I've been attempting DEILD but always fail because either:
1. I quickly open my eyes and move to see the time on the alarm clock before I can think that I am attempting a DEILD.
Or 2. I chicken out because of the fear of SP
So what does it feel like to enter sleep paralysis? I'm afraid of the part that people say they can't move, but that was the other kind that wasn't like WILD, it was like when they tried to wake up but felt pinned to their bed.
Thanks for the help!

Sorry, just to preface here, I want to ask you a question first, and will answer it too. How are you doing DEILD? I am trying by using a mantra to wake me up after every dream. So far it has taken no effect, but that's not a problem, it's only been two nights. Anyway, I just want to know how you are going about it.
Also.
1)DON'T. Well, yes, it's not that simple. Try setting intention, perhaps using mantras. It should come with time.
2)A LOT of people ask about SP. The general agreement on DreamViews is that Sleep paralysis is not at all necessary to Lucid Dreaming.
But if you insist so, listen here: DEILD is meant to be a shorter and easier wild. If you are focusing on recreating your last dream(or whatever you are doing) enough then you will be lost in the visualization; and by lost I mean you will enter it and become lucid. Also since you are falling back to sleep so fast, SP-remember, if it happens at all-should only last seconds, even from the start.
Besides, from my experience SP can be fun. In fact, it is fun. Just to think that you might hallucinate Purple Flying Unicorns puking rainbows and stabbing lions to death is pretty awesome.

this is my favorite method to easily induce chains of lucid dreams, sometimes 10+ in a row. don't worry too much about what the sleep paralysis feels like. you may not even notice it. for me i barely pay attention to it anymore but if i had to describe it i would say it feels like your body is heavy or sluggish or even similar to the feeling you get when your foot falls asleep etc. just super relaxed. it's not like you are turned to stone or anything and if you want to move out of it you will easily be able to. this is the perfect time to just hold still, keep your eyes closed and start thinking of your dream again and use your mantra if you do that.
good luck and if there is anything else i can be more specific about let me know.

Thank you for the help! And Yost, I usually use mantras also. I've been going about this for a couple of nights now, and the mantras and autosuggestion have woken me up at least one time each night.
I will try again tonight and try not to be afraid! :thanks:

I fall into SP every single time I go to bed now (or at least according to definition I am.) I have never hallucinated. It almost feels like your body is numb but you can feel a great amount of pressure at the same time.
Imagine your mind being isolated from your body; imagine the freedoms you now have, all in your head. Have fun, and good luck!

Highly recommend reading the above two links posted by gab. ^^
In short, DEILD and WILD are about retaining your awareness while your body falls asleep. Unless you have a rare personal predisposition to SP, you do not need to worry about it or aim for it.
Also, concentrating on your body too much during lding may actually prevent you from proper enjoyment of lds. What if you have already transitioned? It is much better to relax and wait, and ideally imagine you are floating up, moving away from your body, rather than concentrating on sensations. Or even better, you want to get into a dream and not your room. Then simply relax and wait for those dreamlets to form. In the case of a DEILD that may be easier, since you are quite sleepy already.
Have you checked out any DEILD guides around the site?

I have never experienced sleep paralysis. Not saying I don't get it, but if I do I've never noticed. When I begin to fall asleep (as long as I am not too tired, in which case I'm just out like a light), my body feels heavy, super relaxed, but I can still move it. Then I get the hallucinations (HI), brief flashes of images in my minds eyes, lasting longer the 'deeper' I go. Then I'm asleep. I can't usually take my consciousness with me, but if I start saying my mantra as soon as I notice the HI (my mantra is 'I am dreaming') then very soon after I fall asleep, I realize I am dreaming.
1) If I were you, I would turn my clock face away from me slightly, so I have to lean over to see it.
2) If you've never had SP before, you most likely won't get it now.
Just relax....and Good Luck!!

I used to freak out having SP , but not anymore now . In fact it can be quite fun . Don't push too much , it will happen if you insist on it but just don't force too much !
During SP , don't think negativity , use Positive Affirmation , imagine protection golden/white light if you need to . It will only be scary if you let it be ! :)

I've only had sensations a couple times when I DEILD, which only lasted seconds. If you're afraid, it's easy to break paralysis. All you do is scrunch your face up a few times, which is very effective.
Try using a sleep mask to keep your eyes closed. As others have mentioned, keep doing mantras.
Here's a little trick I use for mantras. I use a program on my computer called Think Right Now. It's a program which flashes mantras on your screen. Also I recorded myself saying my mantras, which I listen to a few times a day and before bed.
Good luck man.
