If you fall asleep during the process and regain consiousness in the dream, that is called a DILD.
For a WILD, you do have to keep your awareness throughout the process, until you enter the dream. But, it is possible, to keep falling asleep briefly and regaining consiousness. You have to catch yourself each time you fall asleep and wake up again, until the dream is ready and you enter it.
Ah ok, thanks.
One of the great things about WILD is really that point: being conscious the whole time.
What happens in that time between going to sleep and dreaming? We don't notice that because we are asleep and our body is "numb", relaxed, we are not aware. But all kinds of things happen. When we WILD we notice all of that.
The body getting heavier and more relaxed, the movement of the eyes (REM), the body vibrations, the buzz sound, the formation of images... It's a very interesting experience.
is it hard to control dreams?
Sometimes we have total control, sometimes we don't. It takes practice.
