Wake up during Rem or Deep Sleep

I try to wild and have successfully done it only once. My main problem is that if I wake up during the beginning of my 4th rem cycle ( which is about 6 hours ) then I am too awake and can't wild, probably because of the excitement. If I wake up 30 min before that in my deep sleep stage, and stay up a little bit, will that mean I will go straight back to deep sleep, or will that sort of fast forward my sleep to rem? I find it more useful if I can wake up when I'm tired, but I don't no if this will render results.

I personally believe, that every time we wake up, in order to fall asleep, we need to go through some NREM again. The falling asleep part and deep sleep. What we can control though, is how long that NREM is gonna be. The longer we sleep, shorter the NREM and longer the REM. That's why it's recommended to sleep at least 4.5 hrs before a WILD attempt. But if you sleep longer, that's even better, because NREM will be even shorter.

Now naps are a different beast. If we had a good night's sleep, our body nows that. When we go for a nap, we go straight into the REM, after just very short NREM, much shorter, then during night sleep. This is true mostly for morning naps, that are close to time of waking up. The longer you wait with a nap, or if it gets too close to your normal bed time, our body may think you are going to bed normally and put you through the sleep cycles of NREM and REM.
