You can start your mantra (as an anchor) little later on, as you are getting closer to falling asleep. In case mantra keeps you awake.
Also, some people use counting, and some use mantra as an anchor. Mantra can be any sentence or phrase that is easy to remember, easy to say or think and it has a special meaning to you - feels good and right when you saying it.
It can be as long as "Next time I'm dreaming, i look at my hands and realize I'm dreaming", to short one such as "I'm dreaming".
It can be anything, either to remind you what you doing, or to remind you what to do, once you get lucid.
Depends on if it keeps you awake, or if it allows you to fall asleep too soon, prematurely.
@HH
It depends on what HH were they. If they were in the beggining stage, like single images, or advanced stage, like photographs, moving images, or movies, covering your whole field of view. It's always best to just observe them passively, like a movie. It's easier said than done, granted, since they are so exciting to see.
1. If you see HH, you can start trying some motionless RCs. Like trying to roll out or stand up from your body. By using only mental commands, not the actual muscles. Because you could be in a dream already, especially in later stages of HH.
2. When I see a dreamscene, that covers my whole field of view, I use them to enter a dream by picking a spot in the scene and imagining myself there, while saying "I am there".
