      Accidental WILD?

      Hey guys,

A few days ago I woke up at around 6:30am and decided to go back to sleep after I'd written down the dreams I could remember. I don't really know what happened, I just went to sleep suddenly I felt vibrations, hypnagogic sensations, etc. It only lasted a couple of seconds and next thing I knew, I was in a dream. It resulted in an awesome lucid dream.
I didn't really think anything of it, but yesterday I had the same thing. Woke up, went back to sleep and out of nowhere I felt the vibrations and I ended up in a dream.
The thing is, I've never been able to WILD and I didn't even try to do a WILD, I was going for a DILD. Everytime I tried WILD, I lost consciousness somewhere in the process. Are accidental WILD's possible? Maybe I fell asleep and just at the point where I was about to start dreaming, I regained consciousness? Is that possible?

I think youve achieved DEILD (dream exit induced lucid dream), mostly happens if you think about your last dream and dont move too much.

Yes, and it's not that uncommon, as many people while practicing WILD can temporarily loose consciousness.

The reason for your recent success is probably due the time of your awakening. At that point you're REM stage come earlier in the sleep cycle and last longer, making it a great opportunity to try and WILD.

I'm sure accidental WILD's are possible, Saschavs, because with consciousness, in the end everything is possible.

But you might want to ask yourself this question: was this WILD/DEILD really an accident?

After all, you must have been thinking often about LD'ing, and perhaps been doing daytime work in order to achieve DILD's. Plus, though you might not have consciously intended it, you did do a WBTB in the first example (not clear about the second), and -- as Zoth noted above -- you did that WBTB at possibly just the right time (rising at 6:30 probably means you got up after several hours' sleep). It could be that you were simply ready to have a LD, and inadvertently or unconsciously set up just the right conditions to dive right into on, via WILD!

So you may not have consciously chosen to WILD, but your intention to LD joined your timely WBTB to encourage a WILD event. In a sense, your may have given yourself these WILD's, and just didn't realize you were doing it. That would be a happy surprise, I think, but not necessarily an accident.

In short: If your head is in the right place to lucid dream, and you happen to do the basic WILD technique (WBTB) at just the right time, I think there is a chance that you could experience a WILD, and it might be more of your doing than you think!
