I can't WILD no matter what, extremely quick and heavy sleeper

Hey everyone,

I strictly want to WILD or DEILD.

Here's the problem.
I try to WILD when I go to bed because I sleep very little, and fall asleep very easily so I think I must get REM early on or REM rebound sometimes so I give it a go - and I know you can have LDs in NREM anyway.. I lay down and count my breaths, or I listen to my tinnitus, I've tried a lot and I just end up falling asleep within 1-2mins, yesterday I tried sleeping with my arm straight up in the air, I fell asleep and I guess it slowly went down somehow! lol

I always set an alarm about 2hrs after I sleep to try and WILD again or DEILD, but I'm in zombie-mode and 'never' remember to try!

I want to do this so badly, and I do want to try and do it when I would normally sleep because it would suit me better - for now I would just love a way to lay in bed, mentally aware, without falling to sleep.. I'm considering using pain because nothing else is working, like - a clamp/bulldog clip on my arm, I'm not sure yet!

I'm desperate and I would appreciate any input, thanks for taking the time to read this!

You need something to wake you up a bit more during your WBTB (or WBWBs). I suggest ingesting something with B6, or anything else that boosts serotonin naturally. Apple juice, orange juice, chocolate, a banana. Any of those help with the B6 and/or serotonin levels in the body.

Or - You might just need to get your body moving. Set your alarm for that first WBTB, then exercise for 15 minutes. Or even just piddling around the house, walk the dogs, load the dishwasher, anything to wake up your mind AND your body, so that you not only increase awareness (which is essential for LDs), but you also get your blood moving (which should help you from falling back into that coma-sleep).

^^ Totally agree with Ophelia, would only add that I also agree with your pain idea. Someone else on here also used having to pee really bad as an anchor. Whatever works!

Also, you might consider giving yourself more time on WILD night, MoltenMurw.

Instead of setting an alarm, maybe you could try a WBTB and WILD after the first time you naturally wake up in the morning. In other words, you might want to give yourself some extra sleep before your WILD attempt, even if it means finding time in the morning beyond your normal wake-up time.

Why? Well, 2 hrs isn't a lot of time to sleep (even if you don't sleep a long time normally), and trying a WILD at that point might find you too close to the early deep sleep periods of your sleep cycle, leaving you too groggy to stay awake, much less focus on doing a WILD.

If you are already a deep sleeper, getting back to sleep after several hours might not be a problem for you. I understand that it might be difficult to schedule the time for your WILD in this case, but it might be worth the extra effort.

Finally, remember that in order to LD your body must be asleep. Given that, you might consider your tendency to fall asleep easily and deeply an asset rather than a problem, and that you just haven't found a way yet to apply that asset...but you will!

Last night went awful, I just fell asleep and didn't get to try anything, woke to my WBTB alarm and laid in bed trying to really focus on my muscles relaxing, trying to WILD like that but blacked out in seconds, although I did recall a fairly vivid dream and I normally don't recall my dreams at all so, it's something lol.

That sounds like a good idea, I've never tried anything like that, or B6 foods/drinks.. Exercise sounds like a good idea! That's the one thing that wakes me up :)

There is no way I can find more time unfortunately, it doesn't exist and it won't for a while until circumstances change! Terrible I know but I know I can make it work somehow with the sleep I get. Yes I do consider it a positive asset once I get my technique down, what works for me!

Thanks so much for all the comments, I have a lot of new things to try now.. If I wear earplugs I get great tinnitus that really helps, but then I don't hear my alarm, so if anyone knows a solution to that, let me know! Another one I'd like to try is WILDing during my full lotus meditation, I state the 'full lotus' because I agree that it makes you feel like a tree, very sturdy, I could potentially fall asleep and stay asleep like that sitting up straight, but yeah lots to try thanks to you guys/girls :D

I have a question for you MoltenMurw:

Given that WILD and DILD are arguably equally difficult to do, and both require about the same mindset and daytime work, I believe that ultimately the choice to attempt a WILD or a DILD is a matter of timing, and not one of quality of results. Indeed, it is very likely a good idea to learn how to attempt both, as needed. Since it seems that in your case DILD might be your better choice, because the proper time to WILD is not available to you, and DILD is not terribly time-sensitive. So here's the question, if you'd like to share:

Why have you decided that you strictly want to WILD? Have you considered DILD? If not, you might look into it, because DILD may fit much better into your schedule and sleeping style.

Wow, another terrible night, they are terribly circumstantial.
Things went wrong with going to bed, fell asleep at 4am, woke up to someone screaming at me because my alarm woke them and not me, lol whoops..
I didn't bother doing a WBTB then because I needed an alarm and if another one went off I would be dead! So that's a new problem, I wish I could wake up silently without an alarm, I bought a ZBand silent alarm, a vibrating watch - but it's not strong enough for me, such a shame.

I've gotten some help from MasterMind too involving doing some meditation instead of sleep, looking to trying this one!
I have a lot to try, which is great, will keep on trying and trying.

Not my favourite question because everyone asks it lol, but that's fine - I understand you're trying to help, so to put it short.
Everything I want to do with LDing is for my waking life, it's tests, experiments, it's very set things..
I am a game programmer and designer and as such I want all my dreams to start from scratch as I would if programming something, I would love to wake up in bed and start from a blank canvas, work on my projects, learn, practice time dialation - I have an endless list of things I want to achieve in my LDs, and as fun as being in a random DILD would be it's just not how I want it. One thing I hate with DILDs is RCing, I'm strongly against this because I believe 100% that 'anything' is possible, absolutely anything, no buts, and starting out with the notion that a dream is a certain way and has limits such as 'you can't this' and how reading text is ever-changing and garbled is a terrible idea in my head, and will plant a soul-destroying seed that will only grow into believing some things are impossible, in my LDs I can read perfectly and I have normal hands, clocks are fine too, there is no 'can't'.. Also I would like to know I can WILD on command, and it be more reliable, and I want maximum awareness or there's no point for what I want to do, I'm sure there's a lot of other reasons, ones I've heavily researched - I've read a lot about LDing and I know all the differences to my knowledge, and WILD is the way for me, not to mention I feel I have a blessing in disguise that I could really use to my advantage!

^^ I understand your point of view on DILD, now, MoltenMurw, and certainly your desire to WILD, but I'm not sure I'm on the same page about the nature of DILD's.

DILD is simply the way you transition into a LD, nothing more. What you do after you are lucid is entirely up to you, and not defined by the dream you happened to be in when you made the transition. Some, if not most, of my best "blank slate" dreams began after a DILD; erasing existing dream schemata and replacing it with your planned work is not that hard to do; it might even be easier to do in a DILD than doing it from scratch after a WILD, because your dreaming mind is already running in high gear.

Also for what it's worth: I have never RC'd to become lucid during a DILD. RC'ing is not a requirement for DILD, only knowing that you are dreaming. Also, RC's are more a confirmation that anything can happen in a dream, and not the other way around, though I agree totally with your basic philosophy.

The only other thing I'll add about why I don't want to DILD is that I'm confident I would be in such a fun dream that I wouldn't want to do my important work! lol

Hey MoltenMurw, how much sleep are you typically getting each night in your normal routine?
Also, is your sleep pattern a fixed routing in terms of time to sleep and time awake, or does it vary a lot?

I reckon that if you are sleep deprived, you have little chance of doing a successful WILD, and possibly any other form of LD.
CAT (Cycle Adjustment Timing) can work, but relies ona good routine with plenty of sleep before you adjust the cycle.

How much sleep do I get?
It varies a lot, around 5 hours on average.

When do I sleep?
Varies between 2am-5am typically, but it's all erratic really...
No pattern at all.

That's a good suggestion, I've heard of that - however I may be doing a drastic sleeping pattern change in the next few nights, I'll post it here if it seems like it can happen.. Tonight I'm just going to try and WILD using pain as the anchor! Should be sleeping at around 4:30am tonight
